Yet another issue with this Ram. So I don't see how they could be related, but I have a thread going where I had a water sloshing sound behind dash that turned out to be a coolant leak. The dealer fixed it and hopefully that issue is now resolved (though I do still smell faint coolant in the front of the truck by the grill and above the grill when I turn it off...hoping it goes away).

Now I'm noticing another issue. When the truck is in idle and about 1 minute after turning it on, I get a clicking/ticking noise. It seems like it's coming towards the back part of the front (closest to dash). I point to where I think it is in the video.

I'm so stressed out over this dang truck. Only a little over 8,000 miles and all maybe minor deals but still stresses me out. I also noticed today an intermittent barely noticeable clanking noise that sounds like it's coming from the far right passenger side vent. Best I can figure is maybe the blower motor has something stuck in it or is going bad. Who knows. I'm so paranoid now that could be nothing and it doesn't do it all the time.

Anyway, I've attached a youtube video describing what I'm hearing. Is this normal? If not any ideas what it can be. I can again take it to dealer where it's fully under warranty but just so frustrated with all that hassle. I try to do a good thing and get a very lightly used practically brand new truck (not a scratch on it) and now this stuff is happening. I hardly know anything about vehicles which is why I always buy new or lightly used. This may be the first time I get burned on it. Trying to stay positive and hope it's all minor fixable issues.

Any help would be appreciated as to what this noise could be. Thanks.

That video you posted does absolutely sound exactly like how mine sounds. It's maybe just a slightly slower tick tick tick but sounds exactly the same.

I guess either way it's under warranty so I need to call the dealer and take it in.

I am also noticing another issue. When I pull the truck out of the garage and start to go, just for the very first or 2nd shift in the transmission its a rougher shift. That's the best way I can describe it. The engine is a little bit louder/rougher and the first shift or two is just rougher. It's not terribly bad but definitely noticeable to me. After that it shifts smooth as butter the entire rest of my duration. When I leave work to go home...same thing. I don't know if this could somehow be related to my other issues or if this is some other kind of problem.

I guess I need to compile a list and take it back to the dealer for what will be the 4th time. At least still no more coolant sloshing sound but I do still smell it around radiator/front of truck.

Just to update in case this helps anyone googling years into the future.

So the engine ticking noise wasn't actually in the engine. When I brought it to the dealership and showed it to the mechanic he narrowed it down to something called a Purge Solenoid. If you held on to it you could feel the ticking that was occurring in the video (and ticking would sound different so you knew it was coming from that). On my linked video, for reference if you go to about the 1:30 mark, towards the middle top part of the video there is a almost yellowish looking thing attached to black plastic that has a white tag on it. That's what was making the noise.

They replaced it and the noise is now gone. Since the noise occurred intermittently they ruled out my suggestion of the loose roller rockers on cam shaft and they were right.

At least for now that noise is completely gone. I left it on idle for a while and drove it around for a bit and have never heard the noise again.

So if you ever get a ticking noise that sounds almost for sure like it's coming from the engine, make sure you rule out that Purge Solenoid which is a pretty easy fix. If it wasn't under warranty it's probably something I could of replaced myself pretty easily.

On a side note, that clanking noise I mentioned that I was getting when the air/heater was on was a blower problem. Not sure exactly what the problem was but they replaced the blower and I no longer hear that noise now. I'm very happy with this new dealer. I fully expected to get a whole bunch of that's normal that's normal, etc., especially on the clanking noise with the blower because that one was hard for me to duplicate. It didn't happen very often. Pretty happy that they actually took the time to look at it and fixed it. I wasn't too concerned about it but the ticking noise from the engine area I was very concerned about, so glad that looks like it's fixed.

Anyway, it's just the day after so if I have any more issues concerning this I'll update this thread to maybe help others in the future.

Good to hear that it's fixed and the important part is that you found a good dealer service dept and mechanic.

It just shows that you can't ignore unusual noises coming from your engine bay, glad you got it fixed up.
