Hey All,

I have an 2014 Ram QC 5.7 2wd 8 speed and looking to either install 392 gears (currently have 321 gears) or long tube headers W/ cattless Y-Pipe. I currently have it HF tuned and an S&B cai. What do you all think I should go with first. They are both roughly the same cost, assuming I install the headers myself. Your opinions are greatly appreciated.

Since it's a 8 speed I would go taller than 3:92"s.. maybe like a 4:30

taller means higher? 4.30 would be a lower gear than 3.21 and a 4.30 which ive never heard of would be way too much for an 8 speed you would be in 4th or 5th gear before you cleared an intersection and could never do a full throttle launch from a dig without big slicks and it would problably go into limp mode alot.

Depends on how big of tires you plan on running, 3.92 would probably be good for 35"-37" tires.

3.92 is a good gear all around and still gets good mpg but will melt the tires off the line but the 3.21 will do fairly good til about 3rd gear thats where it shows the difference between the two but adding a set of 1 3/4 longtubes and a good tune might just wake it up enough to be satisfied.

I am running a 30" tire so just by doing that helped some with getting out of the hole with the 3:21's. I am kind of worried about traction off the line with going to 3:92's.

I have 392 with 34 inch tires and I can't launch it without it being in 4x4. It has no problem lighting them up. Make sure you have a LSD if you going to change it to 392. With that being said I love them and wouldn't change it for anything.

being your running 3 inches less tire i wouldnt regear if your planning on staying with that size your probably fairly close to the 3.92 now with the shorter tire. i would do headers if your gonna stay with that tire size

For what it's worth, I'm running 37's and can squeel them with my 8spd, 3.92's, and full bolt ons/tune except lt headers. Never tried to really burn em.

I would do long tubes, that way you get added power and awesome sound. I love my catless ARH headers.

Thanks for all of the responses/opinions guys. I have decided to go with long tubes. I am really not looking forward to installing them myself though.

I suggest you have a shop install them so they can put it up on a floor lift to work on them, it would be a major pain in the ass to try to install them without a floor lift jack, not impossible of course, but very, very difficult!

Installing long tubes may be a bear, but nothing compared to gears. That is if you could even do gears in a 14.

ARH headers are suppose to be the easiest headers to install because they fit better than the others. Of course they are also the most expensive. I agree it is a lot easier if you have a lift, however if not, someone to help you would make it a lot easier and they can open the beer too.
