Looking at trading my 3.92 5-speed for 3.21 with 8-speed. I know with the 3.21 ill get better fuel efficiency and ill go from about 10,000 pounds to about 8,000 pounds of towing. However what will the performance be like? Is it going to be noticeably worse or with the 8-speed will it make it not as noticeable. Like quarter mile and 0 to 60 kind of things. Thanks in advance.

I have the 3.21 differential with the 8 spd. Its very quick.

The 8sp makes a huge difference, I was very surprised with my truck. for a stock truck its pretty fast and will flat light the tires up even rolling 15mph.
I would like to drive or race a truck with the 3:92s and 8sp to see and feel the difference in the two, lower gears are better but hard to find around here when I was looking.

I have a single cab 3.21 8 speed and it blows the doors off my uncles 11 reg cab 5 speed. Both are stock trucks. I find a lot of people don't look at the ratios in the 8 speed, particularly pay attention to the first two gears.

If you use the vin decoder, you can actually see what the gearing is in these 8spd trannys. I did. Its no wonder they feel so quick!

Your used to driving a Custom tuned truck with 3:92s plus who knows what else so I am sure the truck feels slower then what your used to.
But you bash the 3:21s when a post comes up so your not really a good source on info anyway...

If your opinion was not just bashing the gear set it would be different.
But you dont state a opinion about the difference in the 2 gears just ones a **** and ones not just a simple bash.
If you want to give good info maybe do not bash but explain the differences in how the 2 trucks run .
There is no question the truck with 3:92s is going to ne quicker but in no way is the truck with 3:21s a **** thats just stupid to say when both have the same everything but gearing.
Yes I do know what gearing does and how it works ,I also have first hand experience going from a car with 3:23s to a 4:10 gear set and how much quicker it was after the change but the car was not a **** before.

Its just stupid to come in here and just make comments like that.

The 3.21 and 8 spd should out run a 3.92 8 spd truck. Maybe not off the line but I've taken the identical truck to mine in a race, only difference was 3.21 me to 3.92 my buddy.

He got the jump on me but by about 55-60 I had closed him in and by 100 was a fender up on him.

This is hard for me to believe unless you raced for 2 miles.

3.92s are geared for more low end, I'll call him up and get it on video. It's happened every time stock to full bolt ons for both of us.

I understand gearing, just hard for me to believe with everything else equal that the 3.92 geared truck gets caught at 55 mph.
