I'm in the process of adding several go-fast toys and was considering upgrading the gears. I have read that the R/T factory 4.10 gears are a direct bolt on. This is the part number I have found (68088179AC). My major concern is that I have a 4x2 Express with 3.55 non-LSD. Will these work on my setup and what else is needed other than the ring and pinion to complete the swap without issues? I think this price isn't to bad considering: PINION GEAR for 2012 RAM 1500|68088179AC

I very much agree. With the Hemi and 4.1s I think you'd really regret NOT getting the LSD.

You'll also want to get a full install kit (new bearings & seals). It's not QUITE 'just bolt in' you have to set the new gears etc. It's been a tempting swap for me as well...

The install kit is a given...my concern is more with the gears and the lsd. Is all that is needed the ring and pinion kit and lsd carrier or is there more involved. Trying to get an idea of the total cost at least in parts. Here is the link with the full break down of the rear axle: AXLE & DIFFERENTIAL for 2012 RAM 1500

Sorry for all the questions...I like doing my research before pulling the trigger. Specifically on the not so cheap upgrades...

I don't like a 4x4 without LSD, and 4x2 without it is nuts!

It's one of those things that you regret not having gotten at the time of purchase. Then again my plans were not to do anything to this vehicle. Yeah right...who was I kidding???

I totally understand you feeling there! :roflbow:

I always said if I bought a brand new truck I would custom order it.
I wish I had.

The axles on the 11s and 12s are a little different so you have to get axle seals for your year, just give them your VIN, the ones included in an install kit are for pre 2011 Chrysler 9.25 rearends.

Wished we could just order a R/T rearend and be done, swap them out. I too have a non-LSD and 3.55's

What's to stop you? Well besides the rediculous price.

Or you could get a 2009-2010 axle with 4.10s for $1,299.50. Don't know why there's such a huge price difference...

I paid $400 for OEM gears(already had LSD) and $400 for install so.....

You could have a stock 2011+ LSD modified to fit pre-2011 gears, that would be slightly cheaper than the OEM gears. I didn't wanna do that since I would have some down time since I already had the LSD stock.

I may just do the OEM 4.10 swap and not worry about the LSD for now...I know it would be worth it but my pocket would have to disagree.
