I accidently bought 5w30 redline oil off Amazon. Can I still use this? I reckon I can return it, but was curious if it was worth the hassle of shipping it back

I use it :) 5w20 is only to get better MPG numbers...lol...

You couldn't pay me enough to run 5w20 in my HEMI.

Greatest mistake you ever made! Running 5-20 is nuts (especially if you tow or run your engine hard)!!

Assuming the product is returnable (I suspect it is) the process of returning items back to Amazon couldn't be easier. At least that's my experience.

there are plenty of folk that run 5-30 without issues. there is an oil thread you might want to check out.

Will it hurt? No. Is it any better than the recommended 5 20...debateable.

I went from 5w20 Redline to 5w30 Redline, and that is what I use from now on in my mds Hemi. I likely will never use anything else but 5w30 redline. BTW, you might want to pair that up with a synthetic media filter like Royal Purple. Synthetic filter will allow you to run that 100 dollar oil change for a long time. Visit the synthetic ol thread, I go 2 years in between oil changes, low miles 10k. I have done it with using uoa's as well, which show I could literally go 3 years between oil changes.

I would use it as well...personally just switched to redline....but I used 4 quarts 5w-30 and 3.25 5w-20....down the road I will change over completely to 5w-30 as well. If it makes you more comfortable order a couple qts of 5w-20'and mix em. This oil has quieted my truck down already in less than 400 miles...I second the royal purple filter as well...for added protection instLl a filtermag.

Burla, I'm curious about something that some on the forum have said. Does using 30 instead of 20 actually have any effect on MDS?

I'm liking the idea of the filtermag, do you have a PN on that?

Also many are running 5w-30 without any problems at all with mds...I am running about 5w-27 with my mix of 20 and 30. The manual states you can run 5w-30 if needed.

From the last couple years, I believe it has zero effect on it. I wouldn't run it if I didn't believe that. I should double check but guys are saying even the new manuals are saying 5w30 is acceptable. I am fine with 5w20 as well, that was the weight that ended my tick anyhow, just by switching brands. But to the OP, no reason to send that oil back, probably the best thing and weight you can find for that engine.

I still have warranty... 7yr 70000 miles....extended...I just switched to redline and royal purple filter because the dealer bulk synthetic that I changed every 5000 with mopar paper filter is garbage. My truck was starting to get a little too loud with only 23,400 miles for my liking, 400 miles later is already much smoother and quieter. Very happy and group 5 oil. My truck will only drink redline from now on! No reason to switch.
