I had your typical conical filter on before the Vararam. I can definitely tell the difference, especially mid to upper RPM range. If you're looking for numbers, I can't give you any unfortunately, but I much prefer the Vararam to anything else.

80* out today with 90+% humidity and this was my trans temp on the highway after 20 mins of driving. This is the coolest running transmission I've had in a vehicle.ab399f4999ca1500846f6a6d1aad9b71.jpg

Mine got around 168* yesterday, but it was 104* out and I had been driving for 25 minutes already. I'm still happy with that, given the stall.

I just did pan drop and filter change. What a pain in my ass. I didn't suck any out of dipstick, so dropped pan and took a shower in atf. Dish soap and a garden hose to rinse myself off, including my hair. Pan off, oil filter wouldn't budge, oil filter tool was too big, so I had to jam something in between tool and filter to make it grip. Finally off, and another little shower when that came off. Luckily had a 25 torx bit, one of the few things that went well. Flat filter off, read on here to use needle nose to get old seal out, yeah no luck with that. Its in there tight and nothing to grab hold of. Found a interior removal tool that after 20 min I got out. New seal and filters in. Clean off rtv from pan for an hour, finally get new rtv on and finally get pan on and torque after an hour. Next day fill up with atf. The good thing is it shifts noticebly better now. With new filters in gonna just by a brake bleeder and suck out old through dipstick since filters are new. Would have been a lot better with a lift

Oh man that sucks! ATF 4 stinks too...

I've taken ATF showers several times on other vehicles. My 88 Trans Am was the worst because it was so close to the ground. Without a lift there was no way you weren't getting ATF all over you...

So @SETEX 6.4 made a great thread on changing the fluid in a 66RFE and the thermostatic block was brought up that's on some trucks. Anyone have any ideas on how to bypass it? Or if anyone has bypassed it can you post some pics?

I just done another drain and refill with my Mag-Hyteck xsmn pan with Redline C+ATF just because I can and it's so simple [emoji16]

I believe this is the 4th time I've done this since installing the 45RFE Pan on my 2014 , 65RFE Xsmn .
Took right at 7 qts to refill , but I didn't let it drain Really long this time ...if I let it drain for a few hours it ends up being about 8 qts .
Currently have 68,500 miles , I installed this pan at 47k
Almost nothing on the drain plug magnet .[

I'm curious as to what the proposed advantages of the Vararam are compared to other aftermarket intakes. If anything Vararam looks to me like a relic from the 1970's.

I would have to see some impressive dyno numbers from the vararam intake before i dropped $350. On it. Thing is hideous looking. Cant even see the motor.

A long standing member here had bad fitment issues with one. It let dust past the filter because of bad fitment and the filter kept moving a bit after time.

Guys just a heads up, this is a somewhat common problem with RFE transmissions. Here's a couple videos of what happens and how to fix it:

So if the transmission gets stuck in park, DO NOT try to force it or you'll be putting a new shifter cable in!

The good news is the new detent to fix it is dirt cheap:
https://parts.allmoparparts.com/oem-parts/mopar-detent-valve-body-52119501aa

I bought one just to keep in the glove box in case it happens to me while towing my camper somewhere far from home. It's an easy fix but you do have to remove the valve body to replace it. I figure if I have the part in the truck it'll prevent me having to wait for the part.

I know this is a huge "what if" thing to have but for under $4 I feel it's worth it.
