As some know - I am on the cusp of tuning my 12 hemi qc as well as some other mods. Weird enough - I just took a consulting job for 6 months where my employer reimburses me for fuel expense. Regular gas fuel expense. They're not going to cover super unleaded.

So my question is - while I know I can just purchase the tuner and drop in the 87 canned tune, is there such a thing as a "custom 87 tune"even available? One that is superior to the 87 can?

Thanks...

Yup...you can get a custom 87 octane tune from any of the reputable tuners out there.

I'd talk to Sean (hemifever) about what you want to do.

Per manual it's recommended to run 89. That's why you now run 89. And that's why your boss now expenses 89. Good luck!!

I am in the same situation and have talked to Sean about his custom tunes and using 87. He gave me the okay to use his 89 tune while using 87 gas. I am not sure if he specifically sent me a modified "87" tune but I doubt it since it is called 89 tune and the only thing he said is that he calls it his 89 tune because the manual recommends using 89 fuel.

Regaurdless of which octane fuel you run, a Hemifever custom tune will come with transmission and tq management tuning that will show gains across the board. 93 tuning will make about 10rwhp/tq more than 87 octane tuning, but you will feel a noticeable increase in response and drivability from the tq management and transmission tuning no matter what octane you run.

Any cam small enough to not need gear or converter in a 5/6sp wouldn't be worth the money IMO.

8sp is a different story though as the transmission is geared much different. Gear and converter aren't near as important for the 8sp trucks.

I'm glad to know about the 89 custom tune. Still not giving up on the cam and will start another thread on it since it's slow around here anyway...
