I recently bought a 2009 with the 5.7 hemi. It came with an aftermarket intake and in the spot of the stock intake there is a hose connected to nothing looking for some help as to what it is.

Looks like someone had a catch can on there, when they sold it took catch can off and didn't reinstall original plumbing.

That hose is connected to the oem air box, that the owner had removed to install the Vararam intake.

You guys could very well be correct, I've never messed with a Varian intake but I would have thought that would have been part of the install kit. The reason I went with the catch can deal was the rubber hose and hose clamp, I think the line on mine that goes to the air box is a hard line with just rubber connectors on the end.

I'll check on that tomorrow.

That is not the PCV hose for a catch can. That is the breather hose that runs right next to the oil cap. You just need to remove that hose and install a breather filter at the oil cap. The Vararam comes with this filter, but the previous owner either never installed it or maybe bought it 2nd hand.

Ok, I'll take solice on being partially right, my breather tube is a hard line and breather filter should have been provided. Had I ever messed with a vararam intake I might have known.

So if he hasn't looked under the engine cover he may allready have the breather filter on there, in that case we're back to the catch can.

PCV 'hose' is all hard shaped plastic on the passenger side of the engine.
The breather is coming across through the engine cover from the driver's side. It may have some plastic in it, but the shape and diameter is still round like a hose.

If the catch can were removed that hose would not be coming through the engine cover, but instead hanging on the side coming from the PCV at the back, or he'd have a hell of a vacuum leak it was the end attached to the TB.

The original pcv line is hard plastic, but you remove that hard plastic and replace with rubber hose with catch can somewhere in the middle. My catch can is the billet tech specifically for the 5.7. it mounts on lower side of right head in the front. So one hose basically comes straight from front of engine to the can and the other goes back towards engine and lays along the side of the engine towards top of head then runs to rear of engine. Now that slot that his hose is coming out of is the slot for the breather tube but depending on how you wanted or needed to route you're catch can lines it could be used for that too. I'm thinking he needs to take that engine cover off first and see exactly what he's got before he runs out and starts buying parts.

And my breather hose is strictly hard plastic with no clamp.
