Any harm in leaving the engine cover off?

Have to get a replacement hose vent bend for my k&n intake, thinking about painting the engine cover while it's off or just leaving it off all together. Any issues with leaving it off, heat damage to the hood paint would be my only concern

They look nice if you paint them.

:) Yeah-off is OK and you can explore your artistic ability by trying different paint schemes--

Took mine off first day purchasing the truck. Less plastic the better, and better circulation in the engine bay

It's purpose is just for aesthetics, right?

Correct. They routinely get removed because they also trap hot air under them and those of us that truly care about performance want to lower underhood temps as much as possible to reduce heat soak which does chew in the possible timing advance.

I read a good article recently on engine covers. In a nutshell it was an addition to make the "under hood stuff" look less accessible and make people take their vehicles to the dealer for service. It's all about money.

I've been thinking about painting mine and cutting some sections out to fill in with mesh. Some of the Charger setups I've seen are pretty amazing.
