Not a Cummins but I've always dreamed of having this rcsb Powerwagon. This would be awesome with a Cummins.

You'd lose your winch and you'd be waiting for the turbo to spool when crawling around.

As far as projects go, doing these isn't very complicated, but it does require a lot of very skilled fab work.

I'm sure there are a lot of shops that can handle it. Hell, any body shop with qualified personnel can cut and weld frames.

As far as the fuel tank goes, it may still fit. I'd take a look under one of the trucks and see exactly where it sits though.

Sure you'd lose your winch in the factory location and I don't think waiting for the turbo to spool would be a problem.

Post where you can find a brand new Cummins truck for 36k, the cheapest I ever found was 41k and that was with employee pricing.

SCLB 2wd tradesman with a CTD are not expensive at all...seen them in the low 30's before. If sticker is low 40's then you can get them down to low 30's if you're shopping at the right time and it's been on the lot for 90+ days.

Rule of thumb take 8'000 to 12'000 of sticker price and the sticker price of the one I built was 46'500

I thought we were talking about a used truck. In that case I highly recommend you not... You'll more than likely void every warranty on the thing and it will sell for pennies, if it ever even sells.

And before you say that a frame cut doesn't affect the engine or trans, that's not dealer logic. They see a heavily modded vehicle, therefore your engine light is on because of something you did.

Pick up a '10 in good shape and do this. Save some coin too.

Where are you located? There are a few shops that do this kind of work around the Salt Lake City area. Stretchmytruck is who has does most of Sparks Motorsports (MegaRamRunner) frame work. I'm sure they can give you a ballpark price to shorten a SCLB Cummins equipped Ram.

I think a 15k budget is a health and about right ballpark cost.

Break it down by itemized cost,

Cost of truck $year? model?
Frame work $______?___3k-5k??? thats a guess
Short bed replacement $500-1000
fuel tank/ Aum Lift pump $500-700 + Lift pump $500
Paint-$1000-2000
Lift $1500-10k since you said carli thats their price range
Rims/Tires $2500-3500?
custom driveshaft $250-1000 depending on how you make it
re-wiring if required $
Plumbing - Fuel, brake lines $
Then Shop Time if you have a shop do most the work $125-175hr
I'm sure there is some stuff I'm not thinking of, but take the base number for the hard part cost add 5-10% and that is miscellaneous unforeseen issues.

The biggest issue I can see is the fuel tank. I don't think a shortbed tank will work with the diesel, and I'm not sure if the QCSB tank would fit. I cant remember if it tucks under the cab or not.
Just some thoughts to add to it... I think its very possible and the other thing to think of is what platform do you want to build, 1st gen, 2ns, 3rd or 4th Gen? They all have differences in their CTD that are better suited for different things...

lol at 36k dollar cummins

Prices and deals haven't changed much since I bought my 07 Bighorn for $31k.
* years later they still sell for $22-28K. Its cheaper to buy new sometimes. here is Cali you can pick up a base model CTD for starting around 30K with the dealer incentives and inventory reduction... as for basic average cost I'd agree with you but they can be had for 30K+ if the buyer does his footwork.

Yep, SCLB 2WD Cummins can be had for low 30's around here of you just search every week online and wait it out. Wait til early the following year and you can get a hell of a deal on the previous model year.

oops I forgot he was talking about reg cabs hahaha

You are correct, they can be had for much less. I was thinking of the crew cabs. The cheapest ones ive seen are about 39k, so then a single cab tradesman would be around 34-36k? Sounds about right. (4wds)

But I would also agree on buying a used one. Im sure you can find a used one at a dealer somewhere for like ~27k, one that is a year old and low miles. There really is no reason for a new one in this situation.

From what I have seen that build was somewhere near the 50'000 dollar range and is only a 2wd. If I was to do this is would be my DD ( 5000 to 8000 a year) but I would need 4x4 for Maine winters and fun in the mud
