I am making the switch to redline 5w-30 and royal purple filter with an added filtermag MCS-300!
Looking forward to it...I do believe will make a world of difference and I am tuned to delete mds. I will however turn back on so everything can plate with the new oil/moly and then it's off...I can't stand it! Also it's listed as an alternative to 5w-20 in manual by mopar.

It would lube the spot in between the lifters and mds, and if there was a hot spot, the moly would plate. They got a youtube hemi mds that shows the mds workings pretty well.

I know this is an old thread but after reading through it I decided to switch to 5w-30 and so far am pleasantly surprised with the results. I purchased my truck with about 21k miles and the hyundai dealer I bought it from did a fresh oil change on it with who knows what brand or weight of oil (I'm thinking 5w30) and a tec select oil filter. When I started reading about the hemi tick soon after buying my truck I was happy to not hear anything I would describe as a tick. When time came to do my first oil change I put in 5w-20 pennzoil platinum and a fram ultra filter. Eventually I started to hear a little bit of a tick coming from the passenger side of the engine which prompted me to start doing research on the forums. This weekend I changed my oil but this time I used slightly over 1 quart of 5w20 I had leftover from my first change and filled the rest with 5w30 pennzoil platinum. At first startup backing the truck out of the garage the tick was still there, but after my drive to work I got out to see how it sounded and the tick is gone. Started my truck up and went to lunch and still no tick. I'm very pleased with the results and happy to have a quiet valve train again. It was never crazy loud and most people probably wouldn't notice but as the owner of the truck it drove me nuts.

Thanks for posting your experience. 5w30 is what should be in these Hemis. I have yet to see anyone post a negative comment about putting 5w30 in their 5.7 Hemi. Only positive feedback.

I've got a 17 hemi and a 15 penstar and when I bought them I tried playing by the rules 5/20 ms6395. Decided that the 5/20 just wasn't cutting it in either engine and the ms6395 is BS. Currently running Mobil1 EP 5/30 in both and both seem to be extremely happy.

5W-30 is the only way to go. Been running it for quite a while now and have 109k on her.....quiet as a church mouse.
