Went out to the truck yesterday morning and it would not start. Got the jump pack and started her right up, went to Autozone and they said the battery is fine, it just needs charging. I have never had this issue before, is this a common thing? Not sure what caused the battery to die initially - alternator read fine and I didn't see any lights left one (pretty sure the truck kills them all anyways). I picked up a charger from harbor freight and have it charging now but wanted to get yall's thoughts.

First thing to do is check if you have anything causing a voltage drain such as lights or anything you have installed that needs battery voltage. It could still be an issue with the battery itself such as an intermittent cell issue. I assume you have already checked that the terminals are clean and tight.

Yes... Looks like the battery isn't charging past 30% or so. Will give it few more hours to see for sure. It is the original battery, so almost 4 years old.

With all the extra drain put on these batteries by more and more battery using accessories on vehicles now you read more and more issues with life of batteries. A number of years ago seeing them last 5 to 7 years was normal.

I'm getting close to 4 years on mine now and I pretty much expect it to die before it hits 5.

I wouldn't worry over one jump, but I would carry that jump pack with you for a while.

I would go buy a new battery, no reason it should go dead out of now where.

I had a battery I had to jump twice a month for no reason. Lasted another 6 months and went kaput on me.

Local dealership is selling factory one for $130 - so just going to go get it and return the battery charger I bought.... Hopefully this one will last me until the Rebel TRX comes out.

Remember there are a lot of good batteries out there. The dealership isn't always the best place. Interstate, optima, are good ones. I've had the best luck out of optima's. I had one today last almost 10 years on my last truck.. But are a little pricey.

Optima in a Ram? I don't think they make one? If so I agree, that would be the best choice. Yellow ones, the deep charge way to go.

I'll have to check. I had one in my Chevy, took it out before trading it and gave it to my brother in law and he's still using it.

They don't make a direct replacement, I've looked. I would love to have an optima AGM battery in my truck. I've also toyed around with the idea of adding a second battery...

Went with the Mopar factory. Looked at other options but didn't want to spend another $100. No issues since new battery.

Good luck with the battery. I usually won't buy batteries from the dealership.

Well it should be stayed on the side of the battery. After the football game I'll go out and look and see if any info on the battery

Yes the factory battery is an AGM. Mine is 4+ years old and it still tests fine.

My buddy had a 06 300C and didn't replace the factory battery until 2014 when it would need a jump every few days.

AGM batteries are usually pretty reliable for a long time I can see why they're being used more now.
