I know the general census is that redline 5w-30 and royal purple 10-48 filter is the best. Most moly I’m the redline and and royal purple makes a good synthetic filter...

I want to buy the best oil out there for my truck to avoid the hemi tick... but at $12-14 a quart it’s kind of hard to swallow.

Additionally I can’t find it in any stores!

Does anyone have recommendations on where to buy it for the best price online?
Or any alternative oils that are high in moly and readily available?

Thanks!!

As a side question... does anyone use a Fumoto valve on their truck?

Yes, the last three trucks. Needless to say I'm sold on them.

I’m also reading that PYB seems to be a popular choice... what’s the moly ppm on that?

Never an issue or concerns about the valve opening while driving?
I've had them on previous cars without any problems...

So is there any readily available oils that have good "additive packs" to prevent the hemi tick?

If redline is truly the only route then so be it...

It is a ball valve that is spring loaded. The spring prevents it from lifting up so that it is physicially able to rotate. Even without the tension of the spring, I doubt it would open.

I've had those valves on different vehicles over the years.

PYB is a great choice, lots of moly, more then their synthetics in that weight.

If you don't want to run redline don't run it. Only run it if you get the tick.

How does one avoid hemi tick in the first place?

Well maybe I would go high detergency like Penzoil Ultra Platinum, this will keep possible tick points clean, free from contamination.

Maybe some additives like moly, all of the Penzoils have that.

Maybe stay thin, don't have a larger film between possible future tick points.

Have a shorter oil change interval, like 5k miles. maybe penzoil platinum would be the ticket.

Now, this is completely different then what you want to stop hemi tick once it is here.

If you get the tick, well yeah you know what to do.

I have no tick, I went with redline with thought if it stops the tick after it starts that it will keep me from every getting the tick.

I gotcha... like most, I don't have it now and certainly don't want it in the future. This truck is definitely different then my past cars that would work fine with anything.
Trying to learn the oil talk lingo is another headache!

How many miles do you have?

If oils were the same, say PYB, is the factory 5w-20 the best choice or is 5w-30?

I don't want to hijack anyone's thread so if anyone wants to talk about the Fumoto valve just start a new thread and I'll give you all the info I know about them.

I would stay 5w20 for a while.

PYB -pennzoil yellow bottle, one of the best if not the best conventional oil by many.

PP -Pennzoil Platinum a decent choice for a synthetic

PUP- Pennzoil Ultra Platinum high detergency, made with the hemi in mind, srt oil.

I still always say, Coscto m1 deal is probably the best deal on a quality oil you will ever see on a usual basis.

Cpotts13, I never had the stick and I am using Amsoil SS 5W-30. It ha both my Hemi's (my Ram and the wife's Durango running smooth and quiet) . It does not work for everyone, and that's ok.

I was using PYB in the wife's Durango during break-in, and I tried to push it to 4000 miles before my switch to the Amsoil, and at 3700 miles I started to hear the valve train which I have never heard before, so if you want to use PYB be religious about 3k oil changes.

Just my .02 and experience.

On the Fumoto, I have two and waiting for next Oil changes to put them on both. The guys from the Synthetic oil thread made me a believer, and that was all I needed.

Same. I bought my truck with 22K on and have 42K on it now. I had been using PUP in it with no tick. How ever reading the syn thread I decided to switch to Redline 5W30 and RP10-48. Still no tick and engine sounds like its running smoother to me.
