I'm sure it's probably already been discussed but I'll ask again.

My 14 4x4 sport has 48k on it. Factory height in the front and 2" drop in the rear. I have zero plans to level the truck.

I feel as though the front struts are worn. I have been looking into replacing them with the bilstein 4600s. I can probably do them myself for about $300 including an alignment. (Just the fronts). I also got a quote for $680 installed with alignment. From a local shop. Seems a bit pricey.

My questions are:

If I install myself, how difficult for just the fronts?

Anyone else have bilstein 4600s and how well do you like them? Pros and cons.

Worth the money? How's the ride compare to factory?

FYI the 5100's are a better all around strut, adaptive valve , better body and far superior boot. the added bonus is the adaptability down to road for ride height

comparing the two the 4600's are stiffer

They are too firm, I would use something else. That price is gross, shop around, you should be at half that.

Les Shuab only charges me 25 bucks per shock I buy there to install, last time I got shocks.

Definitely agree on that price. Which shocks would you recommend?

Rancho and 4600 are too firm with poor rebound IMO, of the firmer shocks I like KYB's, although those are also firm. As for quality, 4600 are tops, but they are just too firm. If you like firm, I would go KYB. As for a closer to factory ride, I think something like Pro Comp or even Monroe. I haven't put them on trucks personally, but I have the first 3 that I have listed. Just from what I've read. If you plan on keeping the truck for a long time, I would look into some of the custom shocks out there, they will cost more then your 600 bucks, but most guys love them. At a minimum, look into adjustable shocks. Can't be more help then that, I mostly know what didn't work for my trucks then what worked. Nothing worse then putting out the money and have the ride so firm it is like going over rocks everytime you hit a man hole.

i like the 4600's. yes, they are firmer then the stock shocks, but not in a bad way, imo. makes the ride more like a truck and less like a car. if you have no intentions of raising the front of your truck, the 5100's really have no advantages over the 4600's.

Yeah I have zero intentions on leveling the front. That's why I did the drop springs in the rear. I like the smooth ride of the factory stuff but I feel as though my front struts are worn.

I had bilstein 5100s on my 12 cummins. It rode decent but I also had 22s so it rode like a diesel truck.

Get the Rancho RS9000 shocks. Of the 9 settings the shock has, and the ease of adjustment, you're sure to be happy with them. Also work great for the rear if you carry any weight since you lowered it.

How difficult is the install on the front being 4wd?
