That would completely depend on what you want out of a cam: low rpm torque, mid-range power, high rpm power. Do you daily drive it or plan to be a street/strip only? Lots of questions need to be answered and you should talk with a cam profiler like Dave at Modern Muscle, Matt at Moe's, or Jay at Greene Racing. You'll also want to look at the cost of a cam swap in a 4th gen and see if it's something you really want to do.

Is swapping just the cam worth it?

It totally depends on what you want out of the truck. If a cam swap is your only mod then I would say no just because you'll get more power out of full bolt-ons and a good tune than you will get out of a cam swap. A full VVT cam swap can easily run you $2K once you get the cam, springs, limiter, etc and most mid-level cams will get you 50-60hp but will change your powerband location. If you're setup with most bolt-ons and want to move to the next level then a cam swap is what you need.

I wouldn't recommend anybody do a cam swap just for towing torque because the gains are minimal for the cost and you will see better results from a higher gear ratio if you need the down-low grunt, but if you're looking for better power for racing then it's a no-brainer.
