My check engine light came on this morning on my way to work. 43k miles, 2014 Ram 1500 Hemi 5.7. Shortly after, a message showed up on my EVIC saying 'Fuel Sensor Fail'. My fuel gauge dropped to E but then hopped back up to previous spot. I googled this message and didn't find much. Has anyone else had this issue. A lot of articles mentioned loose gas cap or fuel pumps. I shut the truck off and retightened the cap but when I restarted the truck the light was still on. Have an appt. to take to dealer and of course it's not covered by warranty!

Sometimes it takes three or four ignition/drive cycles to clear an intermittent fault.

Very well could be your fuel level sensor, which may or may not be available as a separate part.

I would forward that to the Corporate offices as well as post to social media. Also, follow uo on the "consequences".

Just an update. Ran a tank of gas through it with Techron fuel system cleaner added because I saw that suggestion somewhere online. After refilling the tank, the fuel gauge is working again. My CEL is still illuminated but I'm hoping a few more cycles will clear that. I'm not sure if it's all in my head or not but the truck seems to run even more smoothly after using the Techron.

Same issue just came up on Dec 29th. Appt Jan 6th at the dealer to see what may have caused this. I'll look into the Techron additive. Truck has 34,000 miles.

I had the same thing happen last February at around the same mileage as OP.. Fuel sensor bad, the dealer replaced the whole pump as they said the sensor wasn't available by itself. Thankfully I have the Max Care lifetime warranty so it only cost me the $100 deductible.

Try disconnecting the battery to clear the light, the code may still be stored. Or stop at a chain auto parts that has free scanning and have them clear it.

I have been having the same issue, evic say's "fuel sensor fail" I called the dealer and was told 127.62 for the part 462.00 for labor??!! I asked what all was involved, they said dropping the fuel tank and removing a lot of parts under it. I said labor rate is $132.00 hr labor? They said yes!! How difficult is this part to change?

it happened to my 2014 black edition reg cab, it started with that and then eventually popped up with fuel system failure, never left me stranded, but yeah, in the end the dealer replaced the entire pump assembly under warranty

these are the lights i had, on the way to the dealer it came up and said fuel system failure... that was on trip 3 to the dealer where first they said it was the gas cap, then they said the computer just needed a flash and then finally decided to replace the entire fuel pump and a few other components and then it was fixed, sad part is it took my dealer a month to fix my truck between having to drop it off multiple times especially with the first few drop offs being complete BS

I picked up a Haynes manual today, The worst part will be the part cost! The tank is almost empty and after I was told $462 labor to drop the tank I was pissed. 2 nuts a couple of lines and a large nut on top, WTF?!?! Depressurize the system they wanted almost $50 to do that, it was included but to take out a fuse and start the vehicle and let it run out of gas? Really???

Well an update, the fuel level sensor is fixed and worked out great, 2 3/4 hrs later it is fixed. I dropped the tank in my driveway. It was a pain to do but I couldn't see $462 for a little under 3 hrs labor. I never did this so I know with a lift and the right tools I could have done this in an 1 1/2 - 2 hrs!
