I'm coming up on my 1st oil change soon and am hemming and hawing on what oil brand, what filter etc. So there is the oil spec of MS-6395 that Chrysler has for the HEMI. I would like to use Royal Purple and while reading the back of the bottle Royal Purple says that it is MS-6395T certified. Is that the same thing as the MS-6395? I would hate to void the lifetime warranty because I was trying to use what I thought was a good oil for my HEMI.

Also please feel free to give me opinions on what you all think is best. Hell, I was even thinking Dino oil, but I'm past that now as I would like to get 200K out of my truck.

Would not suggest using Royal purple oil, its not what it once was.
Either PUP 5w30 along with a good quality synthetic filter or Redline 5w30.

5w30 is okay for the MDS? I thought it required 5w20.

It does require 5w20. I thought RP was still good oil at least that's what a few people have said.

It also says to run 5w30 if your going to be towing heavy or driving it hard.
Plenty of guys running 5w30 or 0w40 with zero problems.

5w20 is spec out so your truck gets max fuel mileage to keep the epa happy.
I have yet to notice any fuel mileage change running Redline 5w30 and a Royal Purple filter , motor is quieter and runs smoother .

I can't find where the manual says step up to 5/30 or 0/40 oil for the 5.7. MY 2016. That being said, plenty of guys are running 5/30 redline with good results. I don't recall anyone in the synthetic oil thread running straight 0/40 in the 5.7 hemi.

also, don't over look your choice in oil filter. hands down RP is at the top of the list. that might be part of your confusion. great filter, so so oil.

Also remember, the owners manual recommends AGAINST using synthetic oil in the Hemi engines.

Ok, after re-reading, it doesn't recommend against, but it also DOES NOT recommned...it says "you may use if....."

A little off the subject, but I would suggest that you let the dealer do the first oil change cause the the factory filter is torqued at about 200 and it's a ***** to get off. Well maybe not 200 but it's really really tight---let them fight it the first time

They don't ask me.......they know I have a hemi.

Seriously ?...you'd trust the flunkies changing your oil over the owners manual ?? I don't even trust the ones at the dealership, as they have jacked something up every time (spilled oil, dirty hand prints on the interior or body, interior panels left off that never should have been taken off in the 1st place, damaged rims, incorrect alignment, etc).

After the first time I dont go back for oil changes, so no I dont trust them.

They still ask the question though.

For the 6.4l engine.

Also Pp 301 does not say to use 5W30 when towing. Towing falls under Severe Operating Conditions and requires more frequent oil changes.
