Did catch can just increase MPG?

Last two week the 130 mile each way trip I have made I averaged 19.6 mpg. I installed a catch can and this trip the mpg was 20.3. Truck has near 3k miles, maybe it just bereaking in more. Like tha catch can!

I am sure it's your style of driving my 2012 gets 22.5-23 mpg on the highway and that's averaging 75-85 mph on 24s

no, its not the catch can. it just keeps crap from going back into your throttle body/intake but it does nothing for power/mpg.

When my truck was new I was getting 14 mpg. As it broke in that went to 16.5. Most likely just breaking in.

I have read this and tend to agree,

however,

just like the OP, as soon as I installed the Catch Can,
I noticed an increase of .4 MPG on a 250mi trip up IH35 which we have made several times.

Coincidence? Maybe.

But we showed the increase both coming and going on that trip and I will be watching the mileage next time we go.

I actually thought the oil in the return air contributed to lowering the octane as the oily air mixed with fuel which is why I got the can, I think. ha ha

I have been wondering if the recommended 89 octane fuel is simply to compensate for the lowering of the octane by the oil being blown into the intake.

I've always ran 91 and 93 when I go to Texas. I've got my BD set on premium, do I have to pay for 91 or can I drop down to 89 with the same performance?

I do not have a tuner.

I noticed no difference between 87 and 89 octane, so I simply run 87 octane, no knocking yet.

I have a friend that is convinced that this coming summer, especially when towing our boat, I will need to switch to 89 to avoid knocking.

Same here. I have a catch can and run 87 without any knocking. You may be on to something as your theory makes sense.

I notice an increase of about 1mpg when I go from 87 to 93 Octane and power difference is noticeable.

Stock tune
