Hi All,

I have a 2015 Longhorn 1500. I live overseas where the temperature at the Summer reach 120 degree, and I don't think that the 5W20 synthetic oil gonna be enough. I would like to put 15 or 20W40 or 50, which the GM dealer uses here. One of my friends told me that i can do it but i have to use a tuner to disable the MDS system. My question is if I disable the MDS, will that do anything bad to the engine? I don't care about the WARRANTY.

Disabling the MDS will not hurt anything, you're fuel economy will just go down.

No disabling MDS will just turn off the solenoids nothing will happen to your engine besides less MPG.

First you cant disable mds without buying a tuner and replacing your trucks pcm computor an expensive and technical undertaking. Use a 10-30 or maybe a 10-40 amd mds will still work, this weight oil will easily handle those temps. many of is have been running 5-30 with no mds issues at all and some are using 0-40 SRT oil from pennzoil and no mds issues.check out the topic synthetic and read about it

My fuel economy went up after disabling mds. I do alot of highway driving

I'll second that. My mileage on my 2014 1500 went up a mile or two after tuning out the MDS.

OP, you can "disable" the MDS with the +/- button near the shifter. but you have to do it each time you start the truck. that's what I'm doing with my 2015 2500 since there's no tuner for it without buying a new unlocked ECU.

I run the +/- and my truck runs a lot better. I see about a mile sometimes two miles per gallon better.

There was no drop in mileage after I disabled the MDS on mine. Only drop I got was when I put 35s on.

I check the synthetic topic and i find people using 5W30 and 0W40. I am gonna turn off the MDS and i am going to use 20W50 synthetic oil because this is what they use here and according to the viscosity oil chart, the 20W50 will handle temperature of 32 to 110+, and this is the weather here. But i do not know if the HEMI will handle that. I see all GM cars put the 20w50 with no issue

Any thought

Well a chevy isn't a hemi 20-50? Watch for it to throw a code on that thick a oil if it doesn't them your ok, you would be just fine with a 10-40 in a good oil.
