I have heard people throwing up the idea of swapping their non tunable ecu with a tunable year model ecu to be able to tune it.... What all does it take just the ecu or is the tcm needed also?

theoretically speaking if i dont want to wait for them to crack the 2013's could i take a 2011 or even a 2012(seeing as we may be seeing a ds release for 2012's soon) and swap it in no problems or willi need the tcm aswell? Wouldthe dealer be able to even tell if say i swapped ecm/tcm and then if i need to get it serviced swap back the 2013 ecm/tcm?.... im thinking all the proof of having done a swap goes with the ecm so they wont know?

that sounds like a lot of 1- work, 2- cash and 3- maybe it wouldn't even work. aren't they VIN id'd or somehow 'attached' ( or some other technical term) to the rest of the truck- electronics wise?
