What a pain in the ass this oil change was. I'm sure there has to be other threads on this and I can understand why. The 5.7 hemi oil filter location is in a very difficult spot to reach and retrieve. Messy as hell both on me and my garage floor, impossible to do without getting oil everywhere. If any members here have any ideas on how to do this any easier, please post a solution. Filter relocation maybe? The Pentastar I traded was a dream to do an oil change on but not so with this beast. My rant for today.

Yep, oil filter location sucks on the 5.7 Ram. When I traded into the 6.4 HD I was pumped to learn how easy the oil change is. The filter is located right up front with nothing around it and comes out horizontally. They even put a plastic drip pan with a built in funnel underneath the filter. All you do is unscrew and let the oil drain right down. No need to jack the truck, no mess, no nothing. Easiest oil change ive ever done in my life on any vehicle. If they redesign the 5.7 Hemi they really should consider a similar set up.

I got a funnel under the filter and took a long screw driver and poked a hole inbthe filter and let it drian.
Then put a rag under it and pulled the filter off, little to no mess.

Sure there are many different ways to do it though. But yeah its in a ****** place.

Buy a really big drain pan. I just unscrewed the filter very slowly and most of the oil will run down the electric power steering but it looks like it was designed to do that. I covered the plug because I didn't want used oil in it and just wiped everything off after. Not a drop on the garage floor.

I could barely get my hand in there but I will give this a shot on my next oil change.

I loosen the filter off till I can twist it off by hand then I use a freezer bag and wrap it over the filter and housing till the filter comes off. It usually will catch all the oil that comes out. It is a pain but it works.

I use the Filter Glove from Genos Garage!
Not a drop on the PS unit...

Perfect for the smaller filter!

That sounds like something I'm going to try on my next oil change, thanks for the tip

I stick a cooking pan that's shaped sort of like you'd cook a meat loaf in under the filter ... fits just right in there. Then, I loosen the filter & let it all drop in the pan - pulling the pan, oil, & filter out all at once after its done.

Been pretty successful for me so far.

Someone in the oil change thread suggested a 1 quart (i think that was the size), painters bucket. Looked like it fit right up in there and he said no mess. I purchased a few sizes and will try next OC. Best idea I had seen so far. The grocery bag trick didnt go well for me.

Booms: I do apologize it looks like Genos is either sold out or stopped stocking this item.

Here is a pic!
