The EPA actually has a 'high speed' test now that is averaged in that achieves 80mph at times.

https://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/fe_test_schedules.shtml

.

Interesting that the average speed between 'highway' and 'high speed' is only 0.07 mph different,,,

10.26 miles @ 48.3 mph av. vs 8.01 miles at 48.37 mph av...

Would love to see them add a 'distance on 3 gallons at constant 70 mph' test,,,

Thanks for the replies guy's.
On a recent roadtrip between Dallas and Houston I averaged about 20 MPG cruising at 75. It just seems like the 8 speed trany switches gears a lot, but then again the 6 cyl. Pentastar has a lot of weight to push.

DO you also happen to have a 3.21 rear end? That's why the trans can't sustain top gear when cruising.

I get 25 to 27 mpg on the highway at 70 depending on terrain and wind conditions. 8 speed, 3.21. When pulling the travel trailer about 12 to 13 mpg. The EVIC is about 3/4 mpg more generous than calculated.

That's awesome! IMHO, most folks 'need' a Pentastar but 'want' a 5.7,,,

SlowRoller the Pentastar performs a lot better than V8s of a few years ago plus better gas mileage. Much better than my F150 with 4.6 V8. I don't have a single complaint on the engine or transmission.

My "new" '13 1500 Outdoorsman is getting 12.5 all in town driving. It has 3.55's and the tires are 265/70/17 Silent armor load range E. I'm thinking a 285 may get me better MPG.

You best bet on increasing your city mpg is learning more efficient driving techniques. I average 12-13 EVIC in the city with my 6.4 2500.

How exactly would a bigger heavier tire have a positive impact on mpg's?
