I am positive I have a cracked manifold or exhaust leak somewhere near it. I have a appointment Tuesday morning to take it to the dealer. Its for a 2012 ram 1500 hemi with 76,000 miles. Its sounds awful at start up till it gets warm. Then it quiets down. But I can hear it while accelerating even while it's warm. Its soo embarrassing!

Mine is on the drivers side. I've read most people have the leak on the passenger side. I've also read about some people have had the work denied for warranty repair. I think I am still under the power train warranty till 100,000 miles. But I also purchased the lifetime warranty as well. So either way I think I am still covered. I would like to avoid paying the $100 deductible though.

Am I going to get into a argument if they deny warranty work for this (like some people have) if it does turn out to be a issue with the exhaust manifold? Is there anything thing I should expect them to say other than they're fixing it for free?

Mines there now at 51k miles and had no push back for getting covered under power train. (even with a diablosport sticker on my rear window)

Mine was the passenger side rear bolt snapped. Sounded like **** when I started it cold, like you explained. Should be a straight forward repair.

Hi novelmike,

I had mine fixed under the 5 year 100K powertrain warranty, no deductible.

Its easy to be certain if its exhaust. Starts as a discernible tick when cold, then gets quieter and less frequent as engine warms until sound goes away.

If sound persists, its probably not your manifold.

Yeah, it's not a matter of if it will happen, but when. Even the dealership that I go to says it will happen eventually and will be covered under my lifetime warranty, lol.

Yup. Only way to avoid it is after market headers--darn the bad luck!

I didn't get any feedback from another thread when I asked this question, so here goes again. I have a new 2016 with the 5.7, with about 6,000 miles. This seems to be a common issue. Would it be advised to swap out the bolts now before they break? If so, what is recommended?

Just install headers... The factory setup is absolute garbage.

You need to swap them out every 60-80k if you want to stay ahead of it in my experience it still doesn't matter. The exhaust manifold is cast iron and when it warps it snaps the bolts off. New bolt or old they still break. I had mine replaced on my Ram at 50k then at 93k they broke on passenger side. 5k later the drivers side went. The manifolds are too strong for the bolts when they warp.

Thanks, do you have a recommendation? I'm not out for huge HP gains or noise, just don't want to deal with broken bolts.

Taking mine to the dealer in the morning to have my passenger side fixed. The rear bolt is sheared, I can grab the heat shield and wiggle it so i know at least that one bolt is done.

Service manager said my power train warranty is still in effect but he can't tell me if this is covered under warranty until he sees the truck. I have a feeling I'm going to get the run around. Can they make the call not to cover this under warranty since I have an aftermarket muffler?

I've done a lot of reading and searching and was fairly confident that it was. I mean the exhaust is a major and necessary component of the powertrain. But it's the dealerships job to make as much money as possible and not have to do anything for free lol. I'm sure they will try to jerk me around but I won't give in.

Got it taken care of. All covered under warranty, no fuss or fight. Nice to not have that tick anymore.
