I used to own a 1500 2010 TRX4, Hemi 5.7, single exhaust...stock

I just got a new 1500 2017 Sport, Hemi 5.7, dual exhaust...stock

Is it just me or does my old 2010 engine sound a lot more agressive than my new 2017...? If i listen to the tailpipes, the 2017 sounds close, but i'm talking about the engine itself. Seems like the 2017 is purring compare to my 2010.

Just wondering if there was an explanation to the sound difference

cheers

pretty sure MDS has been in the ram since 2006 when I had 2006 TRX 4x4 I remember it having it.

Sad to say, but likely an exhaust leak. The older ones, heck the new ones do it. My favorite note is about 50% throttle 1-2 shift. It sounds just so perfect.

Yea, definitely disable MDS with a tuner as MDS makes light to mid throttle weak and sound like crap, not to mention is useless if you cruise at 70MPH or more on the highway. Also, I bet the newer truck probably has more cats. If you can get away with going catless in your area do it and it will sound much better even with the stock muffler and if you want it to sound really bad ass, go with a free flowing after market muffler and get some long tube ARH headers as well. Also, make sure to get the transmission tuned so you can use all your RPMS, that will make it sound even more bad ass :)

Awesome, Thanks for all the good advice :)

Would changing the air intake improve the sound out of the motor? I can't afford any updates right now, but i will soon!

Are you remembering your 2010 new, or broken in?

The stock muffler hasn't changed, and I doubt the Cats have either. Easy enough to verify, just see if the part number is unchanged.

Remember that "engine noise" is really throttle noise, like you get with an open type "hot air" induction kit.

Exhaust noise is what you hear from the manifold back to the tailpipes.

With that out of the way, as you referring to under the hood noise (Throttle) or tailpipe noise (exhaust)?

Well, anything that increases airflow will help, but you most likely won't hear much of a sound change with just adding a CAI, other than the sucking sound you would hear through the fresh oil in the CAI filter.

For ~ $200 a set of 5" exhaust tips will make even the stock exhaust sound a little better.

Maybe the new truck has better insulation in the engine bay and thats the difference.

I'm talking about the Throttle :)
Get a K&N 'hot air' intake and you'll have tooth cracking, filling loosening, music killing, conversation ending throttle noise under load.

So you're blow'n noise from both ends....! :roflsquared:

If you're running a procharger, you're not running a K&N CAI anymore, you're just using it as a big @$$ air filter
