Absolutely I was being a smart ass. When someone just assumes how things are and groups me in with the brain dead crook techs that need someone's hand to hold in order to fix a problem I take offence to that. There are techs/dealers out there that just blindly follow a computer and won't actually spend the time to repair problems properly the first time instead of the 3rd or 4th. I take pride in being an electrical/driveability specialist, and I'm pretty good at it. I've spent the time and effort to actually understand the complicated systems on today's vehicles and don't just stare at a computer hoping it tells me what to replace(which they don't anyway). I've spent hours upon hours, sometimes days trying to find intermittent electrical problems, and to this day I haven't failed in finding and fixing even the most bizarre issues. I come on this forum in order to help

Now that that's out of the way and I've said my piece, we're all good.

To the actual issue, obviously I don't have a crystal ball and can't tell anyone here that the DCFC is what's happening. I'm just letting you guys know that if you're experiencing a slight stumble that almost feels like a misfire during a cold start, that there is a good chance that's what it is. I've even confirmed this with out tech line engineers that we go to when we're stumped. I've even started brand new vehicles on the lot that do this. Some people don't like that answer and will choose to ignore it. So take it for what it is.

I was obviously generalizing. Too bad you aren't in the Buffalo, NY area because I would take it to you and see if you can fix the damn thing. Because I'm not getting any codes, the dealership is just patting me on my back and sending me on my way.

I have had issues at start up. And it is not normal. Right now it seems to be starting ok. But it is definitely a mid fire cause you can hear it in the exhaust. RPMs rise and fall and is choppy.
There is no check engine light on so the dealership can't diagnose it. I am actually thinking of trading the truck in now. I have no confidence that this truck will last.

I'm not sure if my Ram will last either, I hate making payments with all the issues this truck has.

Add another truck to the list, 2013 Ram 2500 w/5.7L. Some days worse than others. This problem has reared it's head for quite some time. Taking it in on July 11th to see if the dealership can identify anything wrong.

Good luck with that. I've brought mine in to the dealership twice (the 1st time was within the 1st month I owned brand new) and both times the dealer basically said "no code, no help" and send me back home with nothing done. If you find anything out, please come back here and post it. I've been seeing this conversation going on in multiple threads in multiple forums for years now. No one as gotten it fixed.

Some days my truck runs like a beast an others not so. My 09 was like that to that's one of the reasons I traded it in for the 14. My 05 2500 Hemi was a tank. I'm actually looking at possibly trading for a 07 Megacab Hemi.

Well, dealership couldn't/didn't find anything wrong. Told, "Within spec." It seems to act up when it's cooler and slightly humid outside. Maybe I'll try again in the Fall.

My 2012 and 2014 both do it. Its almost like your holding the key to start a hair to long or to early which I know im not, just seems that way. Lately its had a rough idle when starting up after it sits the night.

when I bought my truck new, it would do this too. I just changed my oil to mobile 1 full synthetic and there filter and it stopped doing it. It turns on fine now with no hesitation.

Doubt it would have anything to do with oil. It seems to most to be some sort of a fuel issue...too rich for whatever the reason maybe. It definitely seems to be related to the outside temperature (which will affect the fuel mixture) as it comes and goes almost seasonal. Mine has been doing it for the last few months every morning. In the last couple weeks though it was pretty much stopped. Been very hot here lately (90°F+).

mine had the hesitation when i used AM/PM gas (91 octane). I switched back to Chevron 91 octane, now there's no startup hesitation.

I have a few of these come through the dealership (including my own 6.4) and according to FCA they're blaming it on the high ethanol content in gas these days. I I looked around and I found a station that sells lower ethanol rated fuel and sure enough it stopped doing it after a couple tanks ran through. Then on top of it I did a full fuel system service and now my truck never has an issue, fires right up every morning, no more of that extra crank or two. Hope this helps

OP,

I noticed mine doing this as well. I honestly, out of habit, used to hold the brake while turning the truck off. I would get in the truck maybe 2 days later and the brake would feel very hard and would struggle to start. Testing my theory, I put the truck in park, removed my foot from the brake, waited a couple of seconds, then turned the truck off. Since I've done this, I don't have issues with it starting after sitting for several days.

I run 91 octane with no ethanol since the truck was new....last 100 tank fulls. I get the start up hesitation.

My 2014 2500 5.7 hemi has just started to have a rough cold start with an extended crank sequence. Plugs have been changed and ethanol free premium has been used faithfully. Truck has 95000 km on it and im stumped. Hasnt throw a code yet so I haven't bothered taking it into the dealer and it runs like a dream. It just struggles to start. I have tried with and without my DS hemifever tune and with various fuel types and nothing has worked. Just waiting until winter to see if it is a problem. I am curious though.. Anyone ever change their battery out to see if that may be a problem?

Like others have said, my comes and goes. Currently, it has been starting up fine now for the last few weeks and absolutely nothing has changed as far as it is under my control.

I'm frustrated!!
My 2015 Ram 1500 5.7 just started with the hesitation start in May. It's been to the dealership 3 times, with the 4th one coming up next week. They say they can't duplicate the issue. The 3rd time, I was there when the mechanic started my truck, all hooked up to computers, etc...and it did start with hesitation like I've been trying to explain to them and they told me that it's normal.

My first truck (2012) did not do this ever and this truck did not do it at first. Now it's intermittent but it does it often.

Could this be caused by fuel leaking past the injectors when the engine is off and putting gas in the cylinders when it's just sitting. I had a Chevy that if you let it sit a couple of days it was hard to start and found out gas was leaking through the injectors when sitting. Replaced the injectors and it fixed the problem. Just an opinion.
