I put my catch can in line this weekend and I was wondering how often you guys that have one are checking them ? Also, during install I went ahead and changed the air filter and noticed the box is pulling from the fender. Is the stock air box considered a cai?

I check my catch can about once a month, or after a "long" road trip. Also check it at every oil change. The stock air box is drawing air from the right front wheel well--if you consider that "cold" air. Realistically the stock system is pretty good, it just isn't as pretty or noisy as some of the aftermarket ones but it is pretty efficient. IMHO-- the best CAI is the Vararam which draws air from the grille area that goes into a sealed system.

My official time period for checking th catch can is: Every once in a While". The last time l looked, it was nearly full of the nastiest looking puke......

I choose not to run puke thru my engine.

I installed mine at 500miles. I just checked it at 3k and had a couple of ounces in there.

:) Using a VARARAM--there's no need for a "CATCH CAN"--

So, it's a true CAI/w no PCV interference !

Whatever

This really sucks as I have bought a catch can and after reading a few threads am leaning towards the vararam. The only concern is the fitment on a 2016 of the vararam from reviews I've read

Looks sick man. I was reading some reviews on Moe's and has had me on the fence. I will give Matt a call tomorrow to go over some details before pulling the trigger

That makes no logical sense at all.
The PCV still pumps right in to your intake just below the throttle body.
We're not talking crankcase vent--that you do divert with Vararam, but the reason for the catch can is the glop coming out of the PCV on the right hand side.

If you had a vararam, you would know that it comes with a chrome push in pcv, which doesnt route back to the air box. So......what now?

The chrome push in breather is not a PCV breather,it's a make up air breather for the air sucked out of the crankcase by the PCV system. You still have a PCV that will suck the oily mess from the crankcase back into the intake. As stated the pcv still plumbs in behind the throttle body even with a Vararam. You should do a little more research on the PCV system.

It depends on how much I tow. Normally check between 1.5-3k miles.

No. That's your crankcase vent (breather) coming off on the driver's side.

PCV is on the back of engine passenger side and is piped into the intake right below the TB on the passenger side fo the intake.

You are not addressing the reason a catch can is used.
