I had some free time today, so I went ahead and ditched the clutch fan for the Mopar Electric Fan, replaced the thermostat with a 180*, and also swapped out the standard water neck for a satin finish one from Billet Tech. Install was a breeze, and the truck now runs at 177-181* at idle with the fan on, and runs at 183-185* while cruising with the fan off. I have only put about 20 miles on it so far, but the truck feels strong with the other supporting mods there to back it up. Below are a few tips to make the install easier for those of you that are considering this.

I didn't have an air chisel available to pop the stock clutch fan off, so I made a cheap tool using a piece of flat bar and (2) 5/16" bolts. The bolts are 2" long and are mounted 2 1/4" apart. This allows them to fit in the holes in the water pump pulley and keep it in place as you use a crescent wrench to spin off the stock fan...

Next is a picture of how the thermostat is supposed to be installed. There is a small breather hole on the tstat that allows any air in the system to bubble out. This valve needs to be positioned at the 12 o'clock position as shown below...

hey Matt, my truck used to run that cool when I first put in my 180* TS but now it usually runs around 188-190*. Even going down the road etc. I did not check for that hole in the top when I installed it. I wonder if that may be why? Maybe there is still some air in it. I wouldn't think so because it has been probably a year or more since I put it in. I dunno exactly when I got it but it for sure has been a while. What do you think?

Have you checked your coolant level lately? I have seen many guys report that their trucks run around 185-188 on the highway, so yours isn't too far out of line. I have done numerous tstat swaps, so I made sure to position the stat correctly and bleed all the air out of the system. It only takes a few minutes and a half gallon of coolant to pull your stat and reposition it with the bleeder valve at the top. At 188-190, I wouldn't worry about it though. If you were seeing 195-200, then I would definitely tell you to pull it out and check it. In the meantime, just make sure your coolant level isn't low.

Because the OEM fan is pulley driven, it uses energy from the motor to turn it, therefore wasting some of the engines power to turn it. Essentially, going to an electric fan frees engine power and should see some MPG increase as well.

Question about those OEM fans though. What's the deal with that second efan? What is its purpose if it's pretty much in line with the crank fan?

Thanks. Matt! This is now on the list, right after I install my headers...my Jet 180 runs up around 190 pretty often, even 195 stuck in a drive threw now and then. I'm going to check that hole position out.

Where are people buying these efans from?
I'm doing some searching and I'm coming up empty.
Anyone have a link?

TYC makes a cheap replacement fan that will work on these trucks. I actually ordered 5 of them for stock, and all 5 came in broken. Their packaging in the box is terrible, so every single fan had broken mounting tabs. That's when I decided to not buy cheap and went with the Mopar fan instead. The Mopar fan runs about $350-$400, but I wanted to make sure I had a quality piece in my truck. TYC is generally pretty good about aftermarket quality, but they need a lot of help in the packaging dept.

Lance, if you are seeing 195*, then I would double check your stat. Something else to try before removing the stat is to park the truck on an incline with the engine on the high side. Open the radiator cap and let the truck idle up to temp. I like to repeatedly squeeze the upper radiator hose to help push any air out of the system. Do this until the truck gets up to temp. Hopefully any air in the system will burp out. If this still does not work, then I would remove the stat and make sure the bleeder valve is positioned correctly.

Do you have part #'s we can refer to? Is there a wire harness that is included to connect them or is that something we need to get as well, tuning required to set the temp to turn on?

Also, for what years does this specific fan set up work for, good for my 2013?

The Mopar Fan number is 55056851AF. This is a plug n play mod that does not require any additional wiring harnesses or relays. The fan will work on all 09-up Hemi trucks. It is actually what comes standard on the V6 truck, but is a direct fit for the Hemi as well.

Your tuner will allow you to control what temp the fan kicks on and off at. I have mine set at 190* which means the fan does not turn on until the motor hits 190*. The fan will also turn on automatically when you have your AC running in the truck.

Looks great bro! I also preferred the MOPAR fan vs the TYC fan. Quality is better than cost all the time.
