Just curious if all Rams have lieometers installed. I do have a 6" lift on 35's, but have it calibrated and it is damn near spot on, off by about 1/10th of a mile for every 10 miles. So last Avg. Mpg read at 17.1 with 348.8 miles. Have a 26 gallon tank, refilled 23.2 gallons to top it back off. 348.8/23.2 = 15.03. That is nowhere near 17.1, what's up with that?

There are folks on here who claim theirs is within a couple tenths, but mine ranges 1.5-2 mpg on the high side. I recently did a 1200 mile trip, and the trip average was exactly 2 mpg high, 17.5 indicated versus 15.5 hand calc. Lie-O-Meter for sure.

Its funny I just drove 2,700 round trip and mine was close most tanks within 1/2 mile a gallon but did have 2 tanks that were off 1 mpg.

The tanks that were off I had drove the first 3/4 of the tanks like normal and the last 1/4 I was nursing it along trying to not run out of gas before the next station came up and you could see the number climb as I did this.

Seems the consensus is pointing towards avg. mpg showing higher than actual. Have seen that in other threads as well, not the other way around. Is this a deliberate lie to get around the tightening regulations or a sales gimmick. Well, at least we didn't buy these trucks for great mpg!

The lieometer in the Mustang reads about 1.25 under.

The 14 Wrangler is often close.

I take whatever the truck read out is, and multiply it by .9, and then it's close.

I wish there was a way to correct this. Tuner function, maybe?

I have a tuner, but not custom. Maybe the custom tune guys have a way to correct it. Not to concerned about the avg. mpg fault, does make me wonder if faults exist in the mileage calculation.

My last 2 Rams were reading less than what I was getting hand calculated. Go figure..........

I did a one-year study, recording all of my gas purchases throughout the summer and winter months. The end result was hand calculated came out 0.83 MPG under the LIE-O-METER. I didn't have an accurate method to factor in hand calculated errors but I wrote it off as an even since a few tenths of a gallon here and there on fill-ups would explain the differences.

There must be an issue with sensing how much gas has been used and/or what is left in the tank. It's a simple calculation to program in the computer, especially considering what the brains of a vehicle can do now a days!

Was curious so started looking around. There are plenty of reasonable explanations on the web. Apparently it's not just a Ram thing. Here is a sample explanation:
