I'm sure many of you run these setups. Can you tell me towing ability and mpg differences between the two setups?
Thanks!

Towing will be way better with the 3.92. Able to tow more. Make sure that if you regear, you do front and back tho.

35s with 3.21 and towing you'll be like a slug that has no more slime. Aka very very slow.

I have the 5.7 and 3.92's now. Just looking at doing a lift and 35's and was curious difference in towing and MPG with the lift vs the 3.21 as a buddy has the 3.21's

I had 35’s and a 6” lift with 3.92 gears. With CAI, new exhaust system and custom tune I’d get 14mpg in town with a lot of start and stop. Highway way better. Around 20mpg highway.

I’m also curious to find out the mpg of 3.21 gears with the similar setup!

lol, you will be fine. now you might not use 8th gear anymore but on flat roads but it will still pull well.
The 8sp is not like the old transmissions.

Curious in ballpark pricing you guys had in it to make that swap?? Not prying just would like to get an idea what i’d Be looking at to have a shop do the swap?? I have 6” lift and 37’s on my 13 Ram 1500 with 5.7. Don’t haul a ton but I take my pontoon in and out of the water once a year on a 10 mile round trip.

With that set up you’d probably get better mpg’s with 3.92’s. The 3.21’s will work but they will “work” harder, 3.92’s will give a better mechanical advantage. Stock for stock, the 3.92’s are about 1 mpg less. It’s not like the 3.21’s are gonna give you 3-5 mpg’s better.

Although Im a huge the fan of the 3.21s and there are many threads where Im all about the transmission is amazing so the 3.92 gearing isnt needed for the truck. The only time the 3.92's will have the advantage over the 3.21's is towing and initial pull off the line. Once it changes to 2nd gear the math starts to diminish for the gears vs transmission.

If I were going up to 37's I would get 3.92's to keep the gearing and shift points close to stock. 35's I wouldnt waste the money as to get 3.92's in the 2012+ trucks isnt cheap
