So last night my truck started ticking pretty loud when i started it up to head home. Left the truck where it was and got it towed to the dealership today. They said they might be able to look at it this afternoon but probably tomorrow. Leave and go run my errands, they call me 2 hours later saying oh all of my lifters were going to have to be replaced and somehow they tore up the camshaft. They ordered parts today. THEN they told me that they may be able to open the engine up by the end of the week to see if it even is the lifters. Anyone have any idea what i should do? Its really starting to seem like they don't know what they are doing.... truck has 50,000 miles on it.

as i answered in the other thread, r/o other causes. i have read on the forums, your looking at about a 5000.00 for this repair. a new engine is 8000.00. again this is what i have read, no actual experience. of course you may have some warranty left and it should be covered. if not, i would find a junk yard engine to get me up and rolling, so i could rebuild and upgrade the engine you currently have, but thats me.

50K miles and only 4 years old--you've got a 5 year 100K powertrain warranty.

Rent a car, and let the warranty process proceed. Don't screw with the dealer unless they return crap--then (and only then) get on the blower to the Chrysler Rep for your district.

I commented on your issue in other thread as well, I left important info over there. If you have any more questions past doing a search feel free to PM me. Very common issue unfortunately.

Thanks for posting sorry for your troubles, the forum really needs to hear every one of these cases. This is not uncommon and a weakness in the hemis imo. However, it seams people running high moly avoid the damage.

Hi Fergeson,

As some of the other commenters have pointed out, your 5 year/100K mile powertrain warranty is still on your truck. If you are concerned and would like to have us reach out to the dealership, we're happy to do that. You can send a private message with your VIN.

Kori/ramcares have there been many instances where this issue has been brought up and rectified?

It seems that the "HEMI tick" is common on the 5.7 across the CJDF lineup of vehicles (Charger, Challenger, Ram 1500, Chrysler 300, Durango, Grand Cherokee and even the now dead Jeep Commander). Sometimes it's the exhaust manifold bolts and other times it's the lifters.

I've worked with several people who have had their exhaust manifold bolts replaced. I've seen other customers use different types of oil in reference to a tick, and say that had helped. I don't really have a one-size fits all resolution, unfortunately.

Typical Stealership....... Ordering parts without even looking at it. I had a bad pinion bearing ($90) and they told me a big scary story about my gears were destroyed and LSD was incinerating. I told them to show me; they took me to the service garage and my truck was just sitting there. They dident even look at the rear end, dident even take the diff cover off. I called one of Dodges finest mechanics out, and he said "i can just tell by looking at it".... You get the idea:flipthebird:dealership.

Got the truck back today, new lifters, camshaft, and exhaust manifold gasket were the three things wrong. Tried to verify that there was no metal in the oil, was told they flushed the engine. Looks like I'm going to be purchasing an extended warranty before my 5 year runs out!!

Similar pattern. I took my truck in for oil change, but asked them to check rough idle too. It's bouncing from 600-675 rpm at idle. A little bit of non-manifold ticking, so wanted to make certain not lifter or valve seat related. 54K miles and five months left under warranty. Now's the time.

I believe mechanic listened real quick and then didn't look at anything, just picked the standard sell-up items they normally do: change plugs (mine were just changed at 32K--***** put that I refused plugs in the system too, but I've got a pre-paid maintenance plan that will change them at no add'l cost at 60K so why $ now?), clean throttle body (I have a catch can and have inspected, its spotless), and then the unrelated money maker: your brake lines should be flushed (had brakes done at 40K and did the flush then). Oh, and they recommended a $450 4x4 diff and transfer case fluid change, that I can do myself or get done for half that cost at two or three places nearby. Pre-paid plan doesn't cover 4x4 (my bad for letting wife insist on it). Never buy this plan!

So, (now equipped with a reliability check on this Stealership) I got my oil changed and shot it with a bottle of injector cleaner when I got home. The good news is they're now using Pennzoil Platinum (above avg. moly), so no tickety, tick, tick!

The injector cleaner has worked through now and the idle has improved too.

So a word to the wise, question everything these guys want you to pay for....
