I have a 2016 Laramie with 5.7 Hemi. Just clicked over one thousand miles on it. For the past couple of days the engine has gotten so loud it is ridiculous. IT sounds as if the cooling fan is trying to take off. The truck did not do this the first two weeks I had it. From what I can tell looking at engine the fan is directly connected to engine. It is not electric as a lot of newer vehicles are. Cannot tell for sure if there is a clutch on the fan itself or if it is directly mounted to engine shaft. I don't know what else could be causing the loud noise. I even get the noise when starting the truck first thing in morning. Going down highway as it drops into higher gear noise goes away. Then, pulling away at a traffic light it is deafening again. Just a loud roar. Engine temperature is fine...why is it so much louder now. It is not intake or exhaust noise. Loud roar from what I assume is the cooling fan.

Anybody else had this issue or know what may be causing it?

Is it roaring? If so, it's probably the clutch staying engaged, if it's bad I'd be surprised with it being so new. It's warrantied.

It is rare but not unheard of for a new clutch fan to go bad, but that sounds like your problem

It will be loud when you first start, especially if cold (winter), as it takes a little bit for the fan clutch to "warm up" and disengage when its not needed. As others have said, if the clutch fails, it usually fails in the locked position. They'd rather you have too much cooling than not enough in the event of an ill timed failure. Same with the thermostat for your radiator, they usually fail open if they fail. Better to have coolant flowing too early than none at all.

I would have the $tealership look at your clutch fan. See if you can't get them to fix it under warranty, shouldn't be too expensive for them.

Since its that new, just make a call to a local dealership and get them to look into it. If it's the electric fan you can always try and unplug the connector and see if there is any build up or just disconnect battery.

Taking truck to dealer early this week. I watched engine while my wife starts truck. The shaft driven fan is running all the time. I thought that it was supposed to disengage when truck engine is cool....but then again what controls the clutch to stop and start the fan. No electrical connections. The electrical fan comes on when you first start and then turns off so do not think that is the issue.

I have the same issue on my 2016 Ram 1500 with 1400 miles. It normally goes away after a few miles but now the loud fan noise is on all the time, especially high RPMs. Hope it stays like that by the time I take it to service next week otherwise the dealer is going to, of course, say they don't see anything wrong with it.

I have had a similar thing pop up but never thought anything of it - when I start the truck up every now and then and maybe the first 6-7 seconds of driving it the fan is extremely loud and then all of a sudden it goes away. Don't know if that's normal or something to worry about?

One of my biggest gripes about my 2015 Big Horn CC is the fact that after 2000 RPM, the engine resembles a large vacuum or wind tunnel more closely than it does a 5.7L v8. The fan sound drowns out anything the engine itself seems to put out. My Mufflex 18" is on the way which may help remind me that I do have a v8, but perhaps I'm experiencing a stuck fan clutch?

Had the same thing happening to mine, and it does happen once in awhile. The dealer says that it takes awhile for it to heat up and release and thus the roaring when getting into higher RPM's

I remember noticing the same thing after a month or so after buying mine. It mainly occurs when I pull off from the drive way, sounds like the and is the viscuous fan clutch, after a few hundred feet it goes back to normal. Until the next morning.

my new 16 ram 2500 has had this clutch fan issue for 6 months. every time i made appointment at dealer to have it fixed, it would stop being engaged the day/night before. i ended up buying a new fan clutch and a tool from amazon to hold the pulley still, and had the old fan clutch out and in in around 10 minutes. the issue is 99% gone now, however, if i park truck on a steep uphill, the fan stays engaged for several miles....

you would figure in a 2016 they would have something other than 40 plus year old technology...however, that is my only gripe for my only new vehicle i have ever owned. i love the truck. cheers...

Funny thing. Mine roars when going down the highway. It will roar all over the RPM range and at random temperatures. I KNOW its bad. Well, my water pump bearing went out recently. Took it to the dealer and they replaced the pump. Get the vehicle back and teh roar is still there along with a noise that was constant before in HOT temperatures (105+). They say the tech cannot replicate even though the service advisor heard it (I drove him). I can now hear the noise above about 95 degrees out.

Get this... I asked them if they replaced the clutch fan. Service advisor tells me I do not have one, only an electric fan and that they greased the electric fan and I should be good to go. ******* IDIOTS! I plan on pulling the clutch fan this week and checking if thats the issue. Just looking at it it looks off balance. I need to find a new service department but they all suck in Vegas :(

** Just an update. I will confirm tomorrow but I just pulled the clutch fan (I will have a/c on so fan shouldnt be an issue without a tune for awhile) and there is no more noise that I could tell. Need to drive it a bit more to know for sure. If it is the clutch fan, I am going to ask Chrysler to replace the water pump again as its probably worn it a good bit. I heard the noise prior to the water pump replacement and also after so I am pretty sure the clutch fan is bad and wore on the water pump bearing.

Pulled the clutch fan off the motor but will be ok to drive because you will be running a/c?

replace new water pump because the clutch fan might be stuck on?
