So I have a 2013 ram 1500, with 44k miles on it... It doesn't happen all of the time. But when I accelarate from a stop or give it a little gas when coasting I hear this low grinding tone for just a few secs... It only happens under moderately light acceleration around 1.5-2k rpm...

I at first thought it was the exhaust and was vibrating but I got a new system and still makes that sound... What could it be... I saw some one day torque converter?

Try driving in tow haul mode, see if it is the same. Maybe tranny shudder low RPM's.

i noticed it after doing fluid chages on diffs, and xfer case, but i filled it with 75-140 rear, chrysler million$$$ fluid and 75-90 front. Also it is open diff. onlything i can think is i used Redline LS fluid, on an open diff... but everyone on-line says its ok to use LS in an open diff

A note, i did those fluids about 150 miles after buying the vehicle. so didnt give it enough time do it before...

It occures when driving, and it drops into a low gear, then i give it a little more accel... AND/OR 1500-2500 rpm...

I doesnt happen all of the time, ever once in a while

It sounds like an exhaust pipe raddling, but like i said, i tore out the stock system and replaced and welded the pipe were everyclamp was...

Only exhaust sound i can think is it vibrating on the hangers

Try driving in tow haul mode and see if it changes it.

sounds like exhaust rattle...at certain engine frequencies it will cause the exhaust to resonate any parts that may be loose or rubbing against. I had the same issue at low acceleration when I installed a new system..as the some systems break in they may move out of alignment or clamps become loose...lay under the truck and hit every part of the exhaust with a rubber mallet and listen to track down the rattle.

Thats what i was thinking... it seems to be under the passenger seat.... i removed the clamp at the Y-pipe, cause people said that causes a raddle... i figured it was the exhaust... and one of the hangers or something is vibrating....

I just saw someone post it could be torque converter and it worried me

Ever find out what this was? I have a 13 1500 ST that does what sounds like the exact same thing. Usually only happens from a stop, or when it would be in first gear.

Hello, I got very same noise as the OP mentions. Was the issue resolved?

I got 2013 1500 4x4 hemi

My noise is exactly as guy in this YouTube noise video, see my description of the noise in YouTube video comments. I found similar issues post on Z forums for 2013 model year 1500 forum.

Is yours sound same as the YouTube video? Take a note, guy with this sound has completely different old 2500 truck, so issue has to be whatever is similar between our tricks.

I never found a solution, my assumption is that it's the 4th gear, dealer ship said its normal for the 6 speed... I'll check the YouTube clip when out of class

Mine makes a similar noise, but it's only when the truck drops into 3rd or 4th... The local tranny shop said aswell as Chrysler, it's just enharrent

Mine makes this sound right before or after truck shifts gears during moderate acceleration such as getting onto freeway up the hill.

I have 8 speed transmission, and sound occurs before or after shifting in the 40-65mph range or so.

But we have different transmissions, so how can we have same noise during shifting? Are you sure it's not some vibration noise coming from y mount as described in YouTube comments?

I had all my exhaust mounts welded!!! Still there! Hopefully it's just an exhaust mount

go to 01:45, on the video.
See how the axlel tilts up? Noise.
Second later, axle tilts up, noise

Wonder if it is the two part driveshaft "bottoming out".

Maybe the front U joints, on the Transfer case end, being pinched, when that driveshaft is shorten up, by the axle titling upwards.

The Noise sounds more like something being pressed against a moving part, for short period of time.

Not unlike teh sound a regular old garage bench, dual wheel grinder makes, when you just press, say a metal bar, against it, then withdraw quickly, the repress metal to the grinding stone wheels, again.

At least, that is what it sounds like, to me.

Let us know what ANY of you find out, if you do.

Still nothing new on this, although today I narrowed it down a little more and can recreate it about 90% of the time. Maybe now I can get back into the dealer and take the tech for a drive to show him.

Anyway, it happens between 2nd and 3rd around 1500 rpms at a little over 20 mph on light to moderate pedal. Heavy on the pedal and it doesn't happen. Happens on smooth and uphill but not downhill. Definitely coming from the back end. Sounds just like a newbie learning to drive stick and not quite getting the clutch.

Check your rear four link suspension bolts and make sure they are tight. After I installed my 6" lift, I heard a slight metal popping noise when taking off or coming to a stop. I crawled under the truck and figured out a couple of bolts had loosened up and when the axle would rotate due to torque, the four link near the shocks would pop and move. After I tightened them down, haven't heard the noise since. Might not be what's going on with your truck but it's worth it to check.
