I just sold my 2000 Dodge Ram 2500 Cummins and bought a 2014 Ram 2wd 1500 Lonestar with the 8 speed transmission. What kind of gas mileage are y'all getting after lifting these trucks 4 inches? I'm just curious so i can see if I can deal with the MPG it will get.

thanks

nothing close to the 20mpg the stock 5.9 would get.

Yea, the more air flow allowed under a vehicle, the more air resistance there is. I would guess it would be about 5MPG less than stock or so.

Well, running a 2014 SLT, 8 speed, 3.21 gears, 4x4 with 6" lift, 35/12.50/20 M/T's with exhaust, tune and hot air intake upgrade. Do about 75 percent freeway at 65-75 and the rest city. Truck lies to me and says avg. mpg is 16, but it is really 14. I suspect you should plan on getting 14-16 avg. mpg.

Is that your guess for highway or city? I like the way these trucks look lifted but I also like the good gas mileage. If I do lift it I'm gonna stick with All terrain tires and probably not go over an 18 inch rim and not go over 33 inch tires, I just want the front end up off the ground and the leveling kit just doesn't seem to be enough.

Surprisingly my 5.9 didn't get that great of gas mileage. My guess would be worn out injectors or maybe the fact that it had close to 400hp haha. the gas mileage I'm getting now in the Hemi is about 2mpg better than the 5.9 but the 5.9 was lifted about 4 inches with 33inch mud terrains

The avg. mpg I get is not a guess and is hand calculated. I'm playing with my different tune options on the canned Superchips tunes and am keeping track of how the options perform. As for my suspicion of what you will get,14-16 mpg with a 4" lift, yes, that is a guess. Obviously there are a lot of variables involved. I wouldn't think there would be much difference in mpg from a 4 or 6 inch lift, I could be wrong. Forgot to add I have a 52" light bar and I did lose a little over .5 mpg. with that install. I suppose I have done just about everything to my truck to reduce gas mileage other than mounting an 8 foot brick wall to my front bumper, so maybe you will do better than I stated. There are a lot of guys on here running the setup you inquired about, so hopefully you will get more info.

Anyway, best to set the expectations low and if its better, then no complaints. I say ignore the mpg. and drive a truck you like. I wouldn't trade back any of my mods for a few more mpg. Between the costs of mods, the truck itself, regular maintenance and insurance, the few extra bucks on gas is pointless for me to create a thought war in my head about. These trucks aren't cheap. Lol...

Yea that's a really good point a few extra dollars on gas is not too big of a deal when you drive something that is what you want.

Why would you put a lift on a 2wd?

It is really a self inflicting wound thinking about it and insult is added to injury once you tally total monthly cost of your truck. I spend a LITTLE more (emphasis added), but can hold a smile on my face when I stroke those checks. And that's what is most important, I hated paying those bills when my truck was not what I wanted.

Since you are considering a 4" lift and have expressed a taste of doing a 6", the best advice I can think of is be sure you don't want that 6" lift. I like a couple of lift shops in my area. When you ask them for a 4" lift. First thing they say is, "are you sure you don't want a 6" lift, we install the 4" lifts and guys sometimes come back in asking for 6", much cheaper doing it the first time around."

Good luck Doc!

Because he likes the way it looks. I don't blame 2wd guys one bit for lifting their trucks. Do you know how many lifted 4x4 trucks never use 4x4 and are strictly pavement queens? I say if you own a 2WD and want the look go for it! It's your truck, enjoy it! By the way I have 4x4, I just don't get the 2WD haters.
