My Ram (5.7 Hemi) is about to roll over 30,000 miles. And the dealer said I needed to change my spark plugs? Is anyone else changing theirs at this amount of miles? Is it necessary? And thinking about doing myself. Yes or No?

I'm not sure what the 2013 requirements are, but everything prior to that was 30k mile spark plug changes. I've changed mine every 30k and they're pretty easy. It'll take 1-2 hours depending on your skill level. The ones under the brake booster are tricky, but with a swivel and multiple length extensions, you'll have no issues.

I have a '12. I did my rear diff at 30,000 along with the plugs and diff trans and plugs at 60,000.

If you choose to do the plugs, do your research. It will take you about 2 - 3 hours. The back six on the driver's side can be a pain and there is a method of sockets and extensions to get the plug out and a new one in. Oh and a couple hose clamp in the gut for two hours is not that fun. But for me I enjoy wrenching and saving probably about $140.00 if not more in labor for the dealer to do it.

In 14 and 15 it went to 100k miles like it should be. I read it's more then just a different plug. A coil change also.

Haha! Yeah, that was fun. To the OP, the dealership wanted $250-300 to do mine...for about $30, I got the plugs I needed on sale and did them myself. The cost savings alone is worth doing the labor yourself.

Where the heck did you get 16 plugs for $30?

Recently swapped them out for iridium ones. Driven about 500km since then. My hemi loves them and I dont have to bust my knuckles for another 160k km. A good thing!!!

The XP's are ~iridium~, (Iridium enhanced), BUT, they are marketed as a Performance plug,,, not necessarily a long life plug,,, (The ground strap is tapered and has no 'precious metal' puck welded to it.)

Plug wear will vary from engine to engine, but the ground strap may erode before you reach 160k km,,, (I had the XP's in a '00 Chebby that were eroded pretty bad after 50k miles)

With that being said, I ran the XP's in my 09 RAM 5.7 The 09 had about 45K miles on the XP's when I traded it in and ran smooth as buttah,,, I also have a new set of XP's ready to go in the 14,,,

IMHO, If you get the XP's with a rebate, you really can't beat the 'bang for the buck',,,,

I'm almost at 60K with my stock plugs. Something I keep wanted to do but always put it off. Truck still runs fine, but I know they need to be changed.

I'm also sticking with the NGK copper. Some people have had issues running iridium in the older rams.

Plugs should be good until like 100k miles. They are just trying to milk you.

Do it yourself if you are concerned.

It depends on the year of truck and what the build date was. If they are copper you change them, if they aren't copper you'll be fine till 100k. There is no blanket run them for 100k cause lets face it copper doesn't last that long.

Not all plugs are good to 100k.13 and older hemi are not good to 100k. Do some research and you will see. Instead of just telling somebody there good to 100k.:favorites13:

Just turned 32k and my 2012 Ram 5.7 is idling a bit rough so I'm guessing the plugs are ready for a change. I haven't pulled any yet so I don't know what is in there now but I'd like to get a better plug, if there is one. I just want a good solid plug that will last........what plugs are folks using?
