I am going to use Pennzoil Ultra on my truck but I have a question that maybe you guys can answer. How long can I run that oil before I have to change it? I drive 60% highway and 40% city. Thanks in advance.

What year is your truck? You should have a indicator/tracker on your cluster. The newer trucks don't base it on miles, but more on conditions etc.

If the truck is not being used in a severe duty environment on a daily basis, your wasting your money on the PUP VooDoo oil...Bare basic oil will suffice along with a basic filter...A 5k O.C.I. should set you back around $18.00...IMO

So what’s the intervals on mileage for oil changes using synthetic. Hemi’s use oil more than most trucks?? I reset my oil mileage thing, just curious with the synthetic how often you guys change it?? First heli I’ve owned. Love it! It’s mean as hell lol...

Plan on changing mine between 8 and 10 thousand miles running Redline 5w30 and a Royal Purple filter.

Figure I can change it half the amount of times using good oil rather changing it more often using cheap ass oil, and not spend much more in the end and have good oil in the truck to boot rather than cheap ass oil.. ;)

I'm going to put you in contact with a Mechanical Engineer that has tested 206 oils for their Anti-wear performance. You can ask questions in his Q&A section, view all 206 oils freely. And he will tell you not to run more than 5k on the oil. Check out the link and enjoy:favorites13:

the oil life indicator on my 2016 Ram prompts me to change around 8500 miles and I run Pennzoil platinum 5w20 from xg10060 oil filter

That's what I don't get, he said basically don't go longer than 5k but all the premium oils say up to like 15 20 25k. So what's the deal on that?

The latest and greatest extended use oil is the new Mobil 1 annual oil...They claim up to 1 year OR 20k miles, which ever occurs first...loooooooool...NOW read their DISCLAIMER........It says if your vehicle has a warrenty, you should follow the recomendations in the OWNERS MANUAL, and to make sure you follow the OIL LIFE MONITOR SYSTEMS calculations so that you don't possibly VOID your warrenty............loooooool...Unfortunately...Those of you who purchased a new RAM after 2015 got HOSED for 40,000 miles worth of extended warrenty on internal engine parts...Pre 2016 owners received a 100,000 powertrain warrenty.....

Changing my pup out with 7500 miles. Oil life meter reads over 30%. Also using a synthetic filter.

Who is "he". I drive a Chrysler vehicle so I listen to Chrysler engineers. You can do oil analysis with blackstone labs and that will tell you if the oil of your choice is holding up. Don't overlook the importance of the selection of a quality oil filter. As always, the oil and filter should !atch your oci interval. Check out the synthetic oil thread. Plenty of good info.

"He" is that engineer that hammerhead posted the link to.

I don't really trust the Chrysler engineers much, because beancounters and the epa also have a say in how Chrysler engineers things. Like all the stories about manifold bolts breaking and lifter issues, hemi tick etc. Not saying they don't know what they're doing, just don't trust them much.

Those same engineers are on record saying that the HEMI will run fine on basic conventional non-synthetic oil...No need for boutique VooDoo oil....

Good choice IMO...If you still plan on using the PUP oil like you mentioned previously, I would re-consider that oil if your truck is a basic grocery getter, back n forth to work or a soccer mom vehicle. There are BETTER less expensive oils out there that will work for you and your 5k O.C.I.

The PUP has become hard to find on store shelves and is waaaaay over priced IMO...Personally I would NEVER waste my time buying oil off the internet, like some do...Walmart sells Mobil 1 synthetic for $23.00 per 5qt jug, or you can go the conventional oil route and save even more....Good Luck...

So what is a good cheap oil that works well and doesn't make the hemi tick, I used Quaker state synthetic last time and it ticked like a blown sewing machine when it was cold. Put redline in and quited down alot. But im about over the 80+ dollar oil changes

"Moulie" said that the Pennzoil yellow bottle conventional oil quieted his hemi tick just as good as the female boutique redline oil did...Unfortunately it ONLY lasted for 3k miles

I have to ask........Who buys a new truck with the engine ticking like a timebomb ?.......................................:word:
