So i have determined using a pipe. Then my mechanic having a better look that my manifolds are not leaking. So that leaves lifters etc. I have about 3000 km left before my next oil change is it safe to leave the mobil 1 in there till its time to change or am i doing more damage and just change the oil now?

If your lifters are ticking, you are creating wear downstream. I would try a RP filter and Redline any weight even 5w20 and give it 500 miles. Nothing has been proven better although there are some other alternative oil formulations with promise. Lifter tick is resistance, that lifter is forced up at a speed that isn't smooth. Cam lob hits the roller, roller moves the lifter quickly, lifter doesn't want to move. Where do you think the wear is being created? It's always downstream, it could be on other places as well, but pressure is increased at bottom point.

Now, some guys have lifter tick forever and have no issues, others have it one day and the cam fails, yes that has happened here. I think in some situations the roller is able to buffer or absorb the impact just a little enough to keep some hemi's working flawlessly. That is why they have a roller there in the first place. But I wouldn't go betting on that, I have also seen (heard) rollers smashed on the board, which ends in catastrophic failure as well. Many cam lifter problems on the board, I don't recall any cam lifter problems on the ford board I was on for a decade. It just seams to be a weakness on hemi's, and by the most part the board has seamed to solve it. It isn't 100% but close, and what do you have to loose the price of an oil change? If you are intent on keeping that m1 I would look at dropping a zinc additive just in case it might help. You should look at the cost of a wiped out cam and lifters before you choose to keep that oil, guys on the board have been paying over 7 grand for that by the dealer.

I wish I would have kept the thread, there was a guy on the board who had lifter tick and did 3 uoa's, his wear numbers where the worse as I ever seen. Maybe try and find that with search.

I would take a closer look at the exhaust bolts.

The only oil that has multiple accounts of that has been proven to eliminate the so called (Hemi tick ) which is the lifters and or cam lobes experiencing metal to metal contact ....is a high Molybdenum type oil ..which is PUP aka Pennzoil Ultra Platinum in the 40wt or any Redline oil weight , but the Prefered oil is Redline 5W-30 oil combined with the use of a high quality filter with 100% synthetic media with a quality ADBV aka Anti Drain Back Valve with a silicone anti-drain back valve seal such as the RP 10-48 filter , Wix Xp or the Fram Ultra filter ....this information has been proven many times in the Synthetic oil thread here .

I suggest anyone with a " Hemi - tick " and wanting to know how to combat it .... post up your concerns in the Synthetic oil thread here ....

I cured my tick/knock completely with one simple step: traded it in for 2010 GMC Sierra 1500 SLT Z71 4x4 ext cab (dual suicide doors) with heavy duty axles, brakes, tranny etc for towing/hauling. Haven't heard the tick since! lmao

Iam going with I dont want the Hemi tick so mines only going to see Redline 5w30 and a Royal Purple filter.
Kinda like getting a catch can, trying to stop the problem before it begains... :)
One of those things that is not cheap but cheaper then a cam and lifters..lol

Remember give it 500 -750 miles for the moly to plate the needed areas ie.. lifters , cam lobes , rollers & such .

That's a great oil combo !
If the tick doesn't have an audible decrease in 2-4 tanks of gas then definitely go with 7 qts of Redline 5W-30 and just keep the same Wix XP filter Installed .
Keep us informed on your situation Sir !

Did you do an oil sample ?

Good luck !

Does Schaeffer has as much moly and zinc as Redline?

Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk
Redline states Extra ZDDP (Zinc) on the label .2b2014a74fdd629e0e57ee6d7f3f4091.jpg

Here's my oil sample reports from Blackstone Labs using Redline , notice the Zinc ppm's , I'm still not sure of the ppm's of zinc in Schaffers oil ?

So got an update. Definitly not exhaust leak. The dealer diagnosed it as piston slap which was a shocker for me. They want to replace motor under warranty. Just a short block swap.
So now i get to decide if i let them and keep the truck or trade it in and get a new one.
