I'm not NEUROTIC nor do I have O.C.D. Soooo I never check any of the temps, nor do I care...A transmission is going to take a **** whenever it decides it wants to. Your not going to prevent it with more Voo Doo B.S....IMO:happy107:

Yes, it's a mechanical device that works on friction and will eventually fail. However, the difference between operating at 170° and 200° could mean a huge difference in the miles/years of service.

Haven't yet done an analysis. The oil mix has just under 4K miles. When it gets around 5K, I'll send for an analysis kit from Blackstone. I normally run the oil for 7500 miles before I change it, so it will be a bit before I take the sample. Also must mention that I've also added a bottle of liqui-moly to that mix which will probably skew molybdenum readings.
My engine has never had the tick (hope it never does). When I do get the results, I'll post them on the "oil thread".
Next OC by the way will be with 100% Castrol Edge 0w-40. Will probably add LubeGuard to that oil as well. LubeGuard seems to be a better moly source than Liqui Moly. Have to thank member Burla for the LubeGuard tip. Hadn't heard of it until reading his comments on the oil thread. It really looks to be a great product.
Great info Sir thanks for the response Sir !
Looking forward to your UOA .

2014 ram 1500 laramie 8 speed. My average transmission temps are 180 to 190 degrees, it really doesn't change but a couple degrees when I tow my 30 ft TT.

Hello all , I'd like to start a thread on posting up your avg transmission temperatures.

Please post what xsmn to have ie .. 6 speed or 8 speed and your year model and approximate milage .

Thanks ! I'll start

2014 Ram 1500 4x4 QC
65RFE 6 speed xsmn
49,000 miles

Winter = struggles to get to 125°

Summer = 130 -140°

Towing = highest I've seen was 155° while towing 7k lbs in 80° temp

Thanks !

130-140 in the summer is amazing. I was at 140-150 city and 160 highway with factory fill ATF. And that's with my efan running all the time.

Yes Sir , sometimes in the winter with temps below freezing I'll get to work (18 miles ) and never break 100°

If cogent arguments are being made I am more than happy to listen. Unfortunately, in the case of the new RF troll, there is little to no useful information offered.
When the IQ hovers right around room temperature, however, I cant really expect much else...
Trudge on, keyboard warrior. Hope you find what you are looking for.

2014 8HP/70 w/No Factory Transmission Cooler but blessed with the stupid Coolant/ATF heat exchanger & No In Line By-Pass installed.

Before I knew this I installed a inline spin-on filter kit & huge A$$ ATF Cooler up front behind the grill!
Which the Cooler does no good since the heat exchanger is downstream of the return fluid from the radiator cooler.

So other words due to this exchanger my ATF is constantly being heated by the Coolant before it reenters the transmission on the return side from the radiator cooler.

Yup I am a full blown ****! But my ATF fluid is extremely clean 24/7!

My temps @ operating temp are fairly constant during both winter and summer months due to this stupid Coolant /ATF heat exchanger!
188°F – 195°F

Winter: Rarely over 190°F
Summer: 192°F – 195°F
Mileage : 25,450

Even while towing it never gets above 195°F.

The Temp Sensor is No Where to be found.
Might even be a sensor inside the trans.

Can anyone think of a good reason as to why they have the new 8speed running so hot. Thats hotter than the 66RFE & the 68RFE in the HD trucks.

Being that transmissions are a closed system and are not open to outside contamination I can't imagine that it is for the same reason you want your engine oil to be around 200.

Condensation burn off maybe?

Just seems pointless.

To my knowledge all xsmns are vented overboard . They must be vented or it would build up pressure & leak at the seals .

I have always wondered about normal condensation build up though ?
This is one of the reasons I installed the Mag-Hytec pan ...so I can drain & refill often

winter I'll guess @ 130 F
summer is @ 145 F
towing 7000 lbs or more will stay @ 160 F in T/H mode. This past June it got as high as 190 F in traffic. I blamed it on the stop and go with no air flow to cool it off but worried me a little.

I finally got around to checking mine today. '17 5.7 8-speed 3.21, 2900 miles. After cold start, warm up, and puling out of the subdivision, it was 165. With a mix of city (30-45) and highway (55), it swung between 174-185. Also went to the track today. It started out at 144 staging for the 1st pass. 159 at end of pass. Made 3 passes total, not consecutively, and the highest I saw was 177. Seems it likes being flogged.
