Supposedly that's one of the advantages of a 5/20 is it flowes faster and doesn't retain as much heat and cools faster.

14 CC 1500 Hemi 4x4, bought with 22k. Previous oil changes were PUP 5W20 and MO899. Three weeks ago right before a big road trip I switched to Redline 5w30 and a RP 10-48 at 38K. Didnt have the tick before, but its little smoother after a 4k roadtrip

Mileage. 3709

Out, Castrol edge extended performance ( gold bottle) 5/20, FU filter
Started getting lifter considerable lifter noise on cold starts, ran smoothe and quiet but couldn't take the cold start noise. Only had about 1200 miles on this oil, was disappointed, wanted to run to around 7000 miles and do an oil sample.

In. 7 Qts PP 5/30 with OE filter.
I'm hopeing this does much better.

Update , day one.
Drove trick about 50 miles after oil change yesterday. Started up cold today and 99.9 percent of noise gone, you really have to listen hard to hear anything. Now if it just stays that way.

Good choice adding the 2qts of PUP 0W-40 Sir. ,as it is higher in ppm of molybdenum, zinc & phosphorus.

bought my 2012 ram 1500 5.7L in July and changed oil for the 1st time on this truck.
it was a valvoline filter and conv oil, I put in Castrol Magnatac "full synthetic", but when I got to change the filter, the one i bought,Fram full synthetic filter, I found that the one on the truck is much smaller than the one in the fram filter book. needless to say I left the old filter on because the wrench wouldn't fit, it fits the fram that the book said. any helpful comments welcome.
Thank you in advance for your expertise.

You Sir have made a GREAT choice imo

A better decision IMHO would be to keep the RP 10-48 . Or change over to the larger. RP 20-870...

Only 2100 miles on the PUP, I was hearing an intermittent very light tick tick tick when oil is hot over the last couple weeks , so Back to Redline oil it is for me !

Did not change the filter , RP 10-48.

Bought everything I need for the first change in my new truck. RL 5w30 and RP 10-48 filter. Just waiting to hit 3k miles. Motor should be mostly broken in by then.

I like to go a few thousand miles on the OEM oil before switching to full synthetic. Allows everything to seat in. Switching too soon just delays the inevitable seating of rings and bearings. 3000-5000 is usually the sweet spot.

How many miles on the truck? It says right on the Redline bottle to wait until 2000 miles for break in
