I've looked up the Car And Driver write up of Ford F-150, Ram 1500, the Chevy, and the Tundra. In a 0-60, our Dodge got stomped. But the Ram had the dreaded(?) 3.21 rear end, plus Ram Boxes, and probably everything else that could put on it to weigh it down. Even at that the Ram was only 300 pounds heavier than the all alum Ford.

Which leads me to my next question.... We've all heard the "Seat of the Pants" stories....

Has anyone with comprable 3.21/8 ever actually lined up against a 3.92/8? What happens in the real world? No more hypothesis. Real life, rubber and asphalt.

Every test i have looked at like that the ram had the diesel not the 57 in it , i would really like to find someone around me that would run their ford and chevy to see for myself.

They tried racing them across country. It ended up very similar to the Tortoise and the Hare,,,

Silly answer?

Maybe, but here's a couple equally silly questions: Do you drive WOT 24/7/365? Is the only thing that matters is who gets across the line first?? If so, forget the RAM and get a Ferd E-Boost with a custom tune.

$ for $, you can't mod a 5.7 and make it fly like an EcoB.

QFT. And stock vs stock, all things being equal in the builds, a stock EcoBoost will smoke a 5.7 Ram in 0-60 and 1/4 mile. My neighbors CC Platinum EB smoked my CC Laramie.

The EcoBoost also takes very well to mods and tuning. A simple tune alone can get +60-70 HP and 70-125 ft/lbs to the wheels. There are guys pushing over 500hp to the wheels with just a couple grand in mods. It's sickening.

The motor is pretty reliable. And the stock transmissions are good for about 500hp before needing mods.

btw, I owned a '11 EB F150 before my Ram. It was fun truck, but I didn't like the ride and my transmission was a P.O.S.

Had a '14 Express RCSB 6speed/3.21...
Now I have a '15 Express RCSB 8 speed/3.92s...
The difference is night and day. My '15 would smoke My '14.

Do they have a 4.10 gear set for the 13-15 rams available yet? I have a rcsb 15 with the 3.21. Did some 0-60 times and was not impressed even slightly I'm debating on purchasing a calendar so I can clock my times at the strip.

I believe they do but if ur 4x4 you can't do a gear swap on the front end. Everything is welded in.

My 2011 ecoboost that I used to own would smoke all of my Rams, but when it came down to it, there was more to owning a truck than speed. The Ford was so uncomfortable and so cheap on the interior that I couldn't stand it. I am happy with my Rams power and just love it's comfort!

One major thing with your comparison. The 3.21 had a 6 speed. And your new one has the 8 speed. Mine is quicker than a 13, 3.92 6 speed qc. Mine is a 3.21 14, 8 speed, qc. If they both had the 8 speed it wouldn't of been night and day difference. I would like to see the stock times by both, 3.92 vs 3.21. I bet you 3.92 guys will be surprised by how little of a difference that there is.

Are you sure? I thought the base gears on a 6 speed were the 3.55's?

Car and driver has 0-60 in 5.4 and 1/4 mile in 14.1 for a R/T. Which has 3:92 rear end. Not too shabby for a stock pick up.

At my local track i have seen bone stock 8 spd 3.21 qc's run 14.2 and a 2015 ecoboost f150 run 14.2. Id say its a pretty level playing field.

Hi All,
Boosted motors can make serious power, so can a well tuned hemi. The real question is why did you buy a truck? Did you buy it for drag racing, sorry wrong choice SRT Hellcat is purpose built for speed. Did you buy it to work, then consider how important smooth power delivery becomes when pulling, pushing, dragging, moving heavy loads. IF the 390+ hp of the hemi does not give enough power maybe you need a piece of construction equipment, not a pick up truck. I have lowered branches weighing 1000 lbs out of a REALLY BIG tree with no issues using my Ram. It delivered the power smoothly and in a very linear fashion. This was very important when those branches were hanging in the air by a pulley and a rope. How about dragging an old shed off the slab so you can replace it, pulling that thing sounds easy but it wasn't. It took a very smooth application of power and a goodly dose of it to move that thing without ripping it to shreds.
Want to race buy a Hellcat, want to work buy a Ram. My truck doesn't have to be the fastest thing on the block, it just has to be smooth, consistent, and reliable under a variety of conditions that it will be asked to be a truck in. So far no complaints.

I do not plan on racing my truck so it does not matter to me. If I want to go fast I can drive my GFs car. With that being said... I would gladly take a "slightly" slower v8 just for the sound alone. That is the main reason I bought the Hemi,.

Lots of good replies. I agree with all of them.

I'd still like to see a 3.21/8 direct comparison with the 3.92/8, preferably with 5.7s. Video operator at aprox the spot where they hit 60.

Does anyone work at a dealership? Can you and a co worker sneak out with 2 new trucks for a bit?

How about I do whatever I want to and with the vehicle I buy with my money? If I want to go fast in my Ram, that's my choice. If I want to go fast in my Corvette, that's also my choice.

And, to be honest, I don't need a 2500 diesel to tow my travel trailer. BUT, I wouldn't mind more power out of the 5.7 Hemi to help me get through the mountainous terrain I live near.
