Regearing '14 3.21 to 3.92

Revo, what did you end up finding out with the 2014 front weld issue. Did yours end up being welded in or were you able to just change the gears?
I'm assuming they're welded, this is what I was told by the dealer and read from numerous sources on here.

Sounds like a very expensive endeavor... I'm having the same dilemma, what were the 37s like on 3.21s? I've considered just getting the 37s and doing the swap down the road. Advice?

Was not fun at all, if you're not driving it hard or towing you probably wouldn't mind all that much if it's temporary. Difference is night and day to say the least.

As someone with a 2015 4x4 sport, who foolishly bought a truck with 3.21's


Save your money!!!

I put a 4 inch lift and 35's on it... It still easily gets the job done... Could it be better with different gears? definitely!

But I finally got to drive a truck with my exact configuration... except with 3.92's
Was it a little more fun to stomp on the gas? yep!
Don't underestimate the 8 speed tranny... I'm not sure I would spend $500 on a gear swap if it was possible... The difference was not THAT noticeable.

I've had 8 service techs tells me the 14+ is not welded and on the parts digram it also shows it being bolted

^^ unfortunately, even if this is true, I have yet to see EOM 3.92 gears for the FRONT diff for sale ANYWHERE!! I called just diffs and yukon. According to them, no one sells/makes just the ring & pinion for the front diff for 2014+. I poured through the internet and have yet to find a R&P set for sale for the front diff. Only the whole diff itself :****sweak:

my fault for not thinking and buying a truck with 3.21s. I thought, "oh I'll regear and get the ration I want later on." Now I'm looking at 2500s. They are selling for about $36k here in S. TX (tradesman, gas, 4x4).

This keeps being brought up. It does not matter if the front gear is welded or not because nobody (Mopar included) sells a ring/pinion for the 2012+ Ram 1500 front axles. You cannot go to a dealership and buy just a ring/pinion for any 2012+ Ram 1500 front axle...and I doubt any scrapyard will let you pull the ring/pinion because Dodge only sells that front housing as a complete unit. The rest of that housing would be useless to them because they cant sell an incomplete housing that you cant buy new gears for.

That's because they quoted you to replace the whole front axle, not just the front ring/pinion. The front 3.92 axle costs about $1350.

They said it was just the ring gear but my dealer also charger 150 for a oil change for what ever reason lol

Go back and tell them to give you a part# then for the parts they said they were going to install. That axle is not serviceable, so there is not individual part #s for just a ring/pinion. You cannot buy them separate from any dealership or online retailer, so the only way to pull off this swap is with a complete front axle.

I think your dealership is either giving you bad info or just doesnt know what they are quoting you for.

You would figure that someone would make a ring and pinion for us. There is a demand for it. I would love to regear to at least 3.93.

Even thou there is no replaceable pinion & ring gear, someone made them for oem front differential.
Why can they not offer as retail, maybe because they make more money selling front differential. :flame:

As far as I know ZF doesn't sell to the general public so if chrysler won't sell it you aren't getting it. If it were not welded though it would make sense to sell them separately. Since they don't that tells me they are still welded.
