Not sure about the '14 but on the 13, I swapped a 07 front 3.92 axle assembly and then got my rear end from a salvage yard with 3.92 and LSD for $600. Total cost was under $1K after it was all said and done. 07+ front diff will only run $400-500USD.

Thanks! Hopefully it turns out somewhat similar. You didn't happen to be at Capital recently, have you?

Nope not recently.

Used to work there tho... also used to live with the current service manager lol

Haha, Ryan was saying that someone he used to work with stopped by and recognized the truck. Maybe it was a little while back.

That's almost $3,000 that you could use to pay your truck off....which would be more important to me unless I use my truck for work or paid rock climbing!

I personally would not want to want to have a 7 year old front end on my new truck.

Giving this thread a bump to see if anyone has some input/suggestions. In another thread 4.10/4.56 gears were recommended for the current setup, but my concern would be the route which would need to be taken in order to do so (planning on having it done through the dealer). I am assuming I'd need to use a front diff from an older model year, and just have them swap it out with a gear kit just as you would with any other, and same goes for the rear.

Bit of an update - truck is on 37s, and will be regeared either to 3.92 or something lower. I understand there is likely additional costs (but considering the potential benefit, it's something I'd be okay with as long as it's not too significant).

Pics or it didn't happen!!
Yep ^^^.

Something I recently started thinking about is if there would be anything different between a front diff on a 14 (welded), and one from a 11 or 12 (not welded)? Truck currently has a lift with the diff lowered connected via lowering brackets; not sure if there would be different mounting positions.

Well, just bought all of the 3.92 parts today from the dealer. Having them swap the front diff, rear ring/pinion kit and an LSD installed to top it all of since they'll be in there anyway.

Not too happy with the price but I'm sure I'll be happy with how it performs once done. Can't take these 3.21s w/ 37s anymore...lol.

321 to 392"s - really not worth it- should of gone straight to 456"s- My personal opinion though.

I'm strongly debating this gear swap as well mines just a 2wd with stock tires would it make a pretty decent jump on the 8spd? Or is it going to " run out of gear" in the quarter?

With the confusion of getting an > 2011 front diff and whatnot, I didn't even want to bother with it. All I need is a bit more gear to effectively tow a 6000lbs load with 37s, and to earn a more comfortable acceleration. I don't race the truck or anything, so I don't see any need in spending more for more hassle. Not to mention, my effective gear ratio on 3.92s with 37s is still better (3.5) than the 3.21s were with stock tires (2.86 with 37s).

EDIT: Oh, and the 8 speed. If I or the next owner if this truck moved back down to 35s, I don't think 1st/2nd would be very usable (with 4.56s that is).

The price really isn't that bad IMO... you would be looking at 12-1800 USD anywhere here, as most shops don't really like to mess with this and ALOT of that is due to the fact that parts have gone WAY up in the past few years. You used to get a ring and pinion set for like 200 bucks. Now they are 500-900 on some applications. Much like tires. Why would ANY tire ever be 700 dollars? ****.

Anyways, if you factor in the CAD, that's 2352 ($1800 USD). And being that's at a dealership and using OEM parts, its really nothing to **** the bed over. IMO

I would have gone 4.10s though, not that its much different. :)

EDIT: maybe you cant in the front diff? I just realized the r/t 4.10 gears are for the rear axle and im not 4wd so ive never thought about it...

That's about a grand more than I'm spending when factoring in additional labor as well (I put that money towards the LSD :)). Am I crazy for spending this much? Probably...3.92 to 4.10 would have been nice, but being able to do a straight swap of diffs with nothing else to worry about appealed to me. Like I said, no racing, just towing a trailer during the winter months and 20km daily to my office.

The front gears are welded in; need to swap out the diff entirely.
