So do you guys replace the sump filter seal when you do a filter change? The guy at the dealership didn't say I had to but it comes with all of their sump filters.

Also the directions say not to put it on the neck of the filter and install it that way. The tech told me to use a seal driver. I don't own a set of them and really don't care to buy one just to install one seal. Any thoughts on that or other install options would be great. Thanks!

Yes you should change it. You don't need a seal driver to install it. Use an appropriate sized socket to knock the seal into place.

I also was told that a gasket wasn't necessary. That I should just use silicone. Anyone else do that? I bought the filters and they didn't come with a pan gasket.

i think the op is talking about the filter gasket/seal, not the pan seal.

I changed the sump filter seal , pretty simple imo , just pull straight down on it with a blunt 90° scribe a litle at a time side to side ...it'll pop right out .

Then just place the new seal in its place press it evenly & firmly with fingers Untill it stays in place @ this point size up a socket of the appropriate size install the socket on a 6" long extension , then lightly tap with a small hammer until the seal is evenly seated .

Here's a link to how I did my fluid & filter change . I also replaced the OEM pan with a Mag-Hytec pan with drain plug .
Hope this helps !
