How often should you change your spark plugs in a 2013 Dodge Ram 1500? 5.7 hemi. And why? Also is there a need to get a higher performance spark plug or a standard OEM change?

I have 2013 ram hemi and my owners manual calls for every 30k, I have standard copper. Just did mine, was about 2.5 hours, runs smoother and idles better, was a little late as I changed them with 38k on odo. Whatever it came with from the factory, stick with those. No benefit from trying to go with fancy plugs, might cause problems from what I've read. Suck it up and do them every 30k!

Depends which plugs your truck came with from the factory.
I have the 100k km (60k mile) plugs but it depends on your build.

Call the dealer with your VIN. They'll tell you which ones your truck came with.

You need Mopar Hemi 5.7 plugs, you can get them from a vendor here, very important not all plugs will work properly. If you do them yourself be careful the first time, they can be rusty because the factory doesn't use di-electric grease to keep the moisture out like they should. Definitely every 30k, use a torque wrench and torque to spec. You may want to use anti seize as well on the threads. Also consider changing coil packs. A good time to do a sea foam treatment and clean the combustion chamber is before you do the plug change.

The reason they dont use anti seize is you won't get proper grounding and will get a misfire fault code.

They even have a service bulletin on this.

You just don't want it near the spark, it is ok on the thread. Same thing with the di-electric, you want it on the rubber but no where near the top. Both anti siezse and di-electric can cause problems if not put on correctly. But if you strip the threads because you have corrosion, it can be a PITA, so manageable risk imo.

Definitely won't do it myself. Don't have time for it. I hear allot of answers. Some go over 100000km without changing them and others are adamant to do it every 30000km. I've never changed them under at least 100000km in the past. Never really had a issue

You can get the spark plugs you need on amazon for about 60 bucks. Used them on my previous 2013 ram.

When you see what they look like at 60k you start changing them every 30-40

Dude, most plugs last that long in most vehicles, but the 30k plug change is for real in the 5.7. Look at your owners manual, you do not have the 100k plugs and if you think you can go that long, you will likely regret it. Look at google images of hemi plugs at 30k, many of them are corroded a hell.

Even if you take it to a shop, you can buy your plugs online and gap them easily. Be sure you have the right stuff, it would take a very good and disciplined mechanic to ensure those two things, right plug and right gap .043inch or 1.1mm.

My Ram ran soo much better after my plug change at 65k! I bought it at 38k and assumed they were done at 30k since it was a certified pre owned truck. But as soon as turned on the street leaving the dealer I had doubts they were ever changed. Felt like a new motor! Better acceleration, smoother idle. Forget what they look like, its how they perform that matters!

My Ram calls for plug change at 30k. Is it best to stay with those plugs or can I switch to the 100k plugs and go longer in between plug changes?

My truck is pushing 27000 miles and I'm noticing it's pinging more than it ever used to and is idling a bit rougher than it used to. Definitely do the copper plugs every 30000 miles.

I got the plugs on Amazon for about $63. My dealer wants $400 to change the plugs which absolute insanity.

*****EDIT: Use the silver anti seize only on the plugs. After further research it seems copper anti seize can react with aluminum*****

My 2013 owners manual states every 30k. Nothing fancy, just the stock plug.

I guess for 2014, they changed plugs?

My owner's manual says 100K.

Just did mine in my '11 last month not that bad to do really the pass rear two are a *****. Did mine at 51k (highway) they didn't look bad and all still had good gap, but the truck definitely ran better afterwards and saw a small mpg improvement. I used anti-sieze and dielectric grease no issues here
