I have a 2011 Ram 1500 work truck (it is a company owned vehicle) and I am having issues with it starting.... It is very odd, the battery is good, starter is good, alternator is good.... What is happening is that when I turn the key to start it nothing happens... Sometimes I have to turn it off and on 6 or 10 times and then it will start as normal... It is almost like there is an issue at the keyed ignition switch or something.... Has anyone had an issue similar to this or have any suggestions?

Pump primes I'm assuming since it runs when is started (does it??)

Company vehicle...who cares haha

Although, starter wiring / ground? Easy check.

If the chimes work and interior lighting in switched or run mode not the ignition as its making contact

You can hear the injectors when the ignition is turned on... And it runs fine when it starts, so I don't think that it is the fuel pump... When it doesn't start, it doesn't even turn over... It is like the switch is bad, or not making contact to tell the starter to turn over... It makes no attempt to start when the key is turned to the start location.

Nothing happens, nada, zilch, no cranking?

If this is the case it could be a warn/bad ignition not sensing the key FOB or bad neutral safety switch.

That is correct when you turn the key there are still dash lights, but Nada Zilch under the hood.... Then (so far at least) usually after multiple attempts of turning the ignition off and then back on and attempting to crank... Sooner or later it works as normal.... I just don't want to be left stranded somewhere and with my luck it will be when I am over an hour from home and running late and have to relieve the babysitter or something.

Hi Bboozer,

If this is something you decide to visit your local Ram dealership for I'd be happy to follow up with them if needed! Just PM our page with your VIN and let me know.

I agree with ^^^^^

Check easiest thing first. Take 2nd key fob and see if it happens with that key too. If not you know it is just the fob and if it still happens you can move on to a possible problem with the switch itself.

I do not think that it is the "key fob" since as I mentioned before this is a work truck... It has almost no options... Manual windows (the kind you have to crank) manual locks (thus no key fob) no cruise control... It does have a radio... LOL... that may be the only option (or maybe you can't get it without one)

Dead spot on starter? Hit the starter with a hammer few times. Or put truck in neutral and lightly push then fire it up? Flywheel will grind the starter gear into a different spot haha.

Check starter connection and ground as well.
