So I had two different shops try to remove my fan clutch on my truck and no luck. My only option now is to replace the water pump. Is it really worth doing this? Does anymore have any input on the performance gains by doing this mod?

I have the DS tuner/hemifever custom tune to modify the stock e-fan temps and also have the 180 degree thermostat in it but wanted to do this mod to free up any other hp before I take it to the drag strip.

Just cut it off if the nut wont spin off. I did that on my 03 for the same reason.

And the shops you used do know that the clutch fan nut is reverse threaded, correct?

Hopefully they knew it's reverse threaded. I just changed my water pump on my 2011 over the weekend. Lower fan shroud was all I needed to remove, not really a difficult job, just a lot of reaching and contorting to get all the bolts.

If you can stabilize the pulley and keep it from moving, I just used a large crescent wrench and whacked it with a hammer until the fan clutch broke loose. I used vice grips to hold the pulley steady.

I drenched it with wd-40 a few days prior. Went to take it off and realized I snugged it up a little bit. Used a standard length screwdriver in one of the holes of the water pump pulley to hold it from spinning and used a large crescent wrench CLOCKWISE to remove no problem. I'd try again and get in there with wd-40 and if that doesn't work, cut it off. The recent post shows 7tq and 15hp difference to the wheels. I think that makes it hard to not remove it once you compare $to# ratio, especially against some other mods.

So I did it. I cut it off! I set the Efan to come on at 195 since I have a 180 therm but it seems like when it reaches that high (sometimes when I first start driving it) it will turn on but doesn't seem to turn off until I turn off the truck? Did I not set the program correct?

Hemi's like to run at *185. So basically once the truck warms up the thermostat stays open.

What are you running your efan at and is it constantly on without the clutch fan?
I set mine at *196. I also deleted the active grill shutters. I also have a 14 so I didn't need to replace my electric fan. The only time the fans really kicked on was in stop and go traffic.

What did you do to delete the grille shutters?

I have my stock efan set to come on at 186 and then it just stays on. Not sure if that is the right way but my coolant temps stay at 185 and tranny temp 130 in town and 150 on highway.

I pulled all the shutters out except one on each side. That way I wouldn't throw a code. There is a couple ways to do it. If you search on here you'll see. It's not that hard. I'm just horrible at explaining things or I would tell you. I would set your fans at *196 that way it's not running all the time. You'll see that your truck will basically run at *185.

I run a 93 hemifever tune...Shawn has it tuned to work with the mods I have installed. It does run more to keep it at 185 but no big deal as the clutch fan was always spinning.

I have also not touched my grille shutters

I was worried of setting mine that low since the fan would always be on and maybe burn it out but I haven't heard anyone saying they burnt the fan out so maybe it would be fine. How long have you been running yours like this?

Matt at Moes told me that they run the fans all the time....they are designed to run...and if it does burn out... it's replaceable....:roflsquared:better to run than not...after all it's designed to cool.

I think I've been running my fan close to 2 years now.

Mine came off super easy. Just two taps with a mallet and off it spun.
I have a 190 t-stat (no tuner).
Build sheet says "heavy duty transmission cooler & heavy duty engine cooling" so I thought I would give it a try.
It ran between 190 and 199 today. A/C fan came on a few times, no issues so far.

Did you see a difference pulling the shutters out? I am debating doing this.
