Racing engines are constantly tore down & inspected/gauged by professionals for wear.
I know they don't run the same type of oil as daily drivers but this is the true test.

If brand x oil gets you 300,000 miles on your daily driver, what would be the point of changing to another brand?
Most do not keep vehicles much past 150,000.
If you got ticks & knocks no oil is going prevent the future failure, may delay.

Now if you are trying to get the most HP/Torque, from your vehicle, then by all means use the best.

I can't argue with what you said above Sir .

Me just me , I've only owned a couple vehicles that did put 150k + on and my last Dodge 4x4 I had 279,000 on it when I traded if for the one I have now .

I usually drive more than the avg driver as hunt and fish A LOT some locations 2+ hr drives and I live in NE Tennessee , my family is in Arkansas , Nebraska and Texas And the wife's family is in Colorado, New Mexico and Kansas . Maybe some day I'll move to the Midwest in the middle of everyone else in our families...doubtful because I do like it here in the hills /small mountains in Tn.[emoji16]

This is why I use high quality lubricants and perform maintenance on our vehicles more ofter than the owner's manual requires .

Does it matter (oil wise) if it's a Ecodiesel for Gasser?

Lol, I think of them as winners trophy's. Everyone here is a winner. No matter how heated the discussion gets or how much we may disagree at times I'd venture to say the each and everyone of us has learned something from being here.

Well the simple answer would be yes it does. I don't know what the requirements are for the eco diesel but I would assume it's some form of a diesel oil. Check you're owners manual for proper specs, there's just about as many diesel oils as gasser oils.

Ronnie you can always downshift and run up some rpm's more often, get the temps up a little and have some fun all at once. Even in my 2 year oil change interval I have never had any water in the oil, and that is even with these *** 3.55's.

As often as we disagree, I'm with ***** above me, good luck tomorrow.

Oil formulations always change, someone who got 300k miles on old formula RP maybe not like new formula RP that has no moly. Someone who got 300k miles on Amsoil SS when it had PAO base with high zddp and high calcium, may choose to not like the new formula that is group 3, low zinc, low calcium high VII's. Researching and making an informed choice is always a good idea imo.

I don't know there is any information that using an oil that eliminates a ticking condition would mean that condition will still prematurely fail, to make that statement is to fashion a guess without all of the information. And it would be equally an uniformed guess to say if your oil ended a tick, that means there wont be a premature failure at some point.

If anything, the old school mechanics rules just don't seam to apply to these modern engines and modern sparce lubrication. In my opinion we have a crisis with lubrication and engine fails. It is either the lubrication just isn't adequate with the thin low additive formulas they now have, or that the quality of the engines are so low they will fail anyway. If the second it true, there is nothing you can do about it. But, if the first statement is true, there just might be something you can do about it. I do find it interesting so many people are brand loyal even when they learn the oil they have been using since the 70's, is no where near the same formula it once was, and they didn't lower the price to match the lower quality either.

The reason is the jackwagons that did my heart Catherization only shaved these tiny spots for sensors and needles to go in , then they tape the hell out of ya !!! Good Lord removing all the damn tape was the worst part of the whole thing !!
Listen I'm a Harry SOB [emoji36][emoji41] but not after tonight ...oh and the wife said she would help with the " delicate" areas LOL Hell yeah [emoji44][emoji44]

LOL, check this one.

For the “delicate” areas it would be beneficial for you sake to have a “ramnewbie”. Makes it easier to shave..

Sorry ramnewbie, a good laugh always has to be at somones expense.

Think it would be better to have a "ramnewbie" and the wife doing the shaving.

It is true, formulas do change to meet new demands. They have to. The latest demand is LSPI. Amsoil decided to tweak their flagship formula as well as the other two major lines below them to combat that new-found threat. What is lesser known, is that they still have many other legacy oil formulations available so that people have choices. You won't find them in the vehicle lookup/recommendation section.

In essence, RL did the same thing, but they created a whole new line of products to combat the latest threat. They don't even claim their flagship oil meets or exceeds the new LSPI-fighting Dexos 2 specs, but their new line does. So if you bought a new Direct Injected turbo 4-banger known to be plagued with LSPI, which RL formula would you choose?

Two different marketing strategies, two different business models. The bottom line is, any engine would be happy for many many miles running most anything either company recommends. There is a reason none of the major oil brands directly compare their offerings to either of these two boutique oil brands.

Well today I went on an approximate 55mile round trip and I took some pics of my Redline 30wt oil temps ...it's a little cool here today but just to show how cool the oil temps are you gotta watch the coolant temps . You'll see my oil temp is almost always lower than the coolant temps .
Pay attention to the mileage !

The fist picture is about 10 miles into the trip . The next pics are in order and one is in a McDonald's drive though ( for the wife not me ) and the last picture is at home after some very spirited driving in an attempt to get the temps up ha ha the wife almost dropped her drink in the floor type spirited driving [emoji16][emoji16]

Remember pay attention to the mileage and coolant temps .1f647ef7d3ca05c8468dc9c3581c2392.jpg91898da8207bcf6382fbdaed12e9754f.jpg

Notice the above pic , to all that think the " LOL THICK 30wt LOL " runs hotter and this drives up the oil pressure at 70+ mph this pic is for you . This is about 15 miles into this trip and at 73mph the oil psi is 55 with oil temp only 194°

9899b54d4764fc3d7bf974fcfb64ac15.jpg

This pic is setting at a stop light after a few miles of in town driving and the oil temp is basically still the same as the coolant.

This one is after going through McDonald's drive through waiting on 7 vehicles in front of us

And finally back at the house after some serious spirited driving ....

I absolutely hate that you can not read someone’s post in your email. That made it so easy. You chould just open the email and read it.... then decided if you want to go to the thread to make a post.

Wow ! The only time I see mine at 212 or higher is in the heat of the summer 90+° (LOL that's hot here ) or when running long steep hills or towing .

I envy you , as I wish my oil temp was higher ...

Interesting.... Ramnewbie pointed out I am running a 50/50 mix of Redline 5W-30 with RL 10W-30 ....my temps were lower than I wanted prior to mixing in the 10w-30 though ..
Maybe my oil temp sensor just reads 5°-7° lower than others ??
