Yeah I think that's what I'm going to do. I really hope copper is still down. If not, I have a choice to make: good wear numbers with PUP or quiet Hemi with Redline

We have never truly zeroed in on the copper in these hemi's. We've been told the oil cooler the release lots of copper early on in his life but they still show high copper ( compaired to other engines) throughout their entire life. Can it continually be bleeding out of the oil cooler or is it really coming from our bearings too?

I'm leaning towards the oil cooler. To my way of thinking if it were bearings, wouldn't there be other metals high as well? Even Blackstone commented on my UOA that it's odd only copper was high. Bearings should also contain zinc, tin, or nickel...

As I understand this, when changing over to redline, it will remove the film or coating protection from the previous oil which will cause wear metals to be a bit higher. The metals return back to normal after this cleaning process and the film is replaced by the redline. At least this is how I understand the process.

I haven't done the 1st change on the Ram yet, only have 1700 miles on it but I use mobil1 , valvoline or castrol synthetics on all of my cars, my riding mower, snow blower, generator, anything that takes oil, except my salads I'll stick to crisco there. I use them due to availability and never go beyond 6000 miles between changes. I never noticed RP at walmart but will look for that next time.

Wow, do you always do oil analysis checks during oil changes?

I dont think they will. But if they do I'm hoping they come out with a specific oil that meets the GF6 raiting and They don't touch anything else.

I would say that they probably will meet the new GF6 or SO or SP ratings, whether they have to change their formula or not. It may be good enough already to meet those requirements but the way I understand it those marks haven't fully been set yet because they can't agree on testing procedures.

Oil companies are updating now to Dexos1 Gen2 but they're still GF5 SN oils.

The good thing with Redline is they don't really care if they meet the API specs. The 1200ppm of zinc is barely SM compliant. So unless Phillips 66 forces them to comply to API specs, I doubt they will change much of anything to be SP/GF-6 compliant.

The other thing to remember is besides us, they are primarily a racing oil manufacturer, not a PCMO manufacturer. They have a reputation to uphold in the racing community and some of those people use their vehicles as daily drivers and race them on the weekends. Those people are going to want a good PCMO that can be raced with on occation without the need to change the oil at the track to racing oil and then back to PCMO.

Still, I feel much better stocking up on their current formula.

Thats kinda what i ment.. I just didn't explain it well. I was assuming they were probably not going to have to change the formula, if any not much at all.
