Thanks!

Pep Boys website actually shows it available at my local store. And they are running a 25% off code, so it comes down to 12.79+tax.

Considering Ill probably end up doing 2 oil changes per year, 13 bux a filter isnt a big deal in the grand scheme of things.
The last time I looked at O'Reilly's website they had them too, but it was call store to check availability so I don't know if they actually had them in stock or just could get them. Right now I can't even get their website to work.

Hello,
I am the technical training manager at FRAM. The Ultra filter is the new name for the improved XG filter. The part numbers are the same. The improvements consist of taking efficiency from 97 to 99% using ISO 4548-12 tests with particle size in the 20 micron range. We also improved the media to increase capacity up to 32 grams in the XG8A size. We are confident all sizes have the capacity for 15k oil changes when used with high quality synthetic oil.
We have now begun production of made in usa cartridge filters as well. This includes the standard Extra Guard line and we will now have long life Ultra cartridge filters. All made in USA. For those who do not know, the construction of the Ultra filter consists of flanged steel end caps that capture a pleated mesh screen. The screen has two layers of synthetic glass media. They also have a silicone antidrainback valve and a new silicone/nitrile combination square cut O ring.

This is slightly confusing to me as i got a different answer form fram a few months ago about the media. I was told it was a paper and glass fiber blend. Maybe i got old info.

So it is a little confusing, only "extended guard" in Fram had that result. All of the other frams are the same, filter was dirty. Maybe extended guard is actually Ultra? Only that Gold can Fram had the good result. The test was 2011, and I don't think they have extended guard anymore, that has to be Ultra?

Guys Burla figured it out, only Ultra has that pinkish media in Fram, so the filter that came in third in this test was Ultra. The name just must have been changed. youtube. Look at the filter at the top of this page, that's Ultra.

So figuring this all out, Fram lower blends not so great, the Ultra really impressive. It is NOT XG or extra guard in that test, that is the Ultra. Fram Ultra came in third in that test. Fram extra guard has yellow media, that is not the filter tested.

From Bob's

Ultra was launched in 2011 and replaced extended guard the same time of this test. Some old paper on the change read like this...

purchase a FRAM® Ultra oil filter (formerly Xtended Guard® oil filter) and any FRAM air filter to receive a $6 rebate. Rebate receipts dated before 02/1/12 and after 12/31/12 will not be accepted.
Autozone Fram

So best three filters a guy can get, Royal Purple, Amsoil EA, and Fram Ultra. Maybe Wix XP, but we don't know if that would have been the same because it wasn't tested. Same thing we have been saying here for years fellas.

I don't know what it is but I've never had that much luck with Fram filters in general, including the ultra. Have tried the TG on a previous vehicle and the UG on my Hemi and it seemed to me that both produced more lifter noise on cold starts. The filter media may be good but I just don't think that their ADV is that great. JMO.

All of the Frams, Ultra first. The other off use Frams all of the same as far as dirt making the second filter. So Fram Ultra is worth the extra cost over all of the other Frams. I bought a 6 pack on ebay for 33 bucks.

Subscribe and saved on the 20-820. Assume it fits the 6.4 as the 6.4 and the 5.7 take the same filter. I'll let you guys know unless somebody else already does.

Just comparing the new QSUD VOA to the one from December 2015 and this stuff has really changed a lot.

The first thing I look at is the moly since that seems to be what will keep the Hemi happy/quiet/tick-free. It went down from 12/15 to 10/17, but the question is still....what TYPE of moly was in the first and second tests.

Did they go from traditional moly to trinuclear? ("Trinuclear moly is an excellent antiwear, antioxidant, and friction-modifer additive that works at very low Mo ppm levels")

If so, we aren't comparing apples to apples. I know Redline is considered loaded with moly, the numbers they show make it seem like its straight traditional moly (there may be no reason to have so much trinuclear if they were using it).

PYB 5w-20 has 187ppm of moly, probably of the traditional type. Thats a higher number than you see in the current QSUD but again it might not be a good comparison.

The newest PQIA test on PP 5w-30 shows just 55ppm of moly, but that test was back in 8/14.

With all the talk of filters has there been any testing and or opinions on the Puralator Boss filters. I have that on my truck now with Penzoil Platium.

Great information on the oil filters. Just wish this was more up to date with the newer filters. Im guess u could assume that the new synthetic oil filters are up to par?

I contacted them. The filter had absolutely terrible efficency ratings for filtration

The micron rating was huge and efficency was like 95%. Bad for a full synthetic filter.

The only filters I'll be using on my truck are either Amsoil or RP. I'm going to get a FU for the wife's GC.

That test proves micron ratings are absolute ****. All of those filters reported higher efficiency ratings then royal purple, and that is a load of steaming aforementioned cusword.

I was really happy today, I must have seen 50 fire trucks heading home down 101 right past my home. Sending all you boys home after a job well done. Wishing all of those fella's and ladies a safe trip home. East, West, North, South, everyone came to help us from burning up.
