Are the people with cam failures actually doing UOA....? I didnt think that we have seen a single UOA on a oil that was in the crank case at the time of a failure.

We have one, one member did three uoa's when his cam was in failure, I wish I would have tagged all the relevant threads from day one, but depending how committed you are I bet you can find it. His wear numbers were astronomical.

This software only recognizes last 500 posts, if there is a way past that it would be easy to find, follow my early posts.

Don't remember Corey, I remember it was way in the hundreds, I assume iron. I tried to find the thread once and lost it.

I went to walmart and they have the 5ltr jug m1 annual protection at 49 bucks a jug, I'm sorry m1 but I aint paying redline dollars to run m1. I say m1 costco deal is a great oil for the hemi if you stay away from tick, but at 49 bucks a jug, I'm using 5w30 redline.

Thanks for the post burla. Hopefully we can find it. If we just knew the members name it would be easy.

Sorry, old man Burla don't have shiney marbles in his head when it comes to memory. The two things I remember, astronomical wear numbers and he did three uoa's, you find that thread there ya go. I believe we discussed hemi tick, but I don't remember the titles of the thread. I believe a lot of these types of threads that ended in failure aren't labeled tick, but something else like engine damage or something. I will try once again to find it. I am 90% sure it was 4 gen.

The blocks the ram forum software put in make it hard to find, doesn't really matter, just know that particular tick had very high wear numbers. I'm sure that thread dates back to 2013.

You can search the site regardless of date of post using Google.

site:ramforum.com <search terms> where <search terms> is what you are searching for (remove the < and > before running the search in Google)

I havent been able to find the right post, but I do see stuff all the way back to 2013.

Just something to keep an eye on here. The Amsoil 15k50 filter for the 5.7 is temporarily unavailable, supposedly to be available again the end of this month. No info as to why, I don't know if they're changing manufacturers or specs or what. Since it's the same as the RP filter you guys using them might wanna keep an eye out.

Fram Quality Control ?

A few weeks ago I changed the oil/filter and air filter on my wife's Jeep Patriot.
I used PP and a Fram Ultra, and I also bought her a new Fram air filter.

The air filter fit too loose, was gonna suck air. It was a Sunday, so I had to wait to buy a Mopar from my dealer. Bought it, and it fit nice and tight. Also lost the receipt for the Walmart Fram, but no big deal there.

Anyhow, it's got me wondering about Fram quality. That ****** would have sucked a lot of dirt and bugs had I not noticed it. If a shop would have done it, I would have NEVER known.......

I swear by OEM air filters. I have also tried aftermarket filters that have not been up to par with oem. Some if the nicer aftermarkets like K&n and the like fit well but iv tried a WIX and FRAM and they both were disappointing. Fram fit like crap and the wix had a lot less ( and thinner) filter pleats, less glue to keep the pleats rigid and as well as the foam seal was crap compared to OEM.

The OEM IS A WINNER in my book for air filters. As you may have heard... the fram ultra oil filter is great though. I use it.

But im subscribed to a RP-20-820 on amazon now so im dropping the fram oil filter to. Not because of quality though. ONLY because of the media filter comparison info that was posted months ago.
RP filters killed it.

Fram was in like 3rd or 4th place out of a LOT of filters though. Its a great filter.

I just did my 1st oil change at 3000 miles. I used the Fram ultra. It has an odd "flute" count so none of my oil filter sockets fit it so hopefully it won't be a PIA to get off next oil change. That filter is in a tight spot on the 5.7L. Do they make a 45 or 90 degree filter adaptor for the 5.7L, I see them for the 3.6L?

This what ive been waiting for. Now we cound hook up an engine block heater to this.

Probobly be extremely expensive though.

https://4x4channel.tv/smart-solar-tonneau-covers-by-truxmart/

Problem is that to get good power the sun has to be overhead. If you need a block heater then you're far enough north that you would need to tilt them up at 30+ degrees to get more direct sunlight and you would not get power on dark days ( rain/snow) or at night. I have solar panels on my house so I know this first hand.

Thanks for setting me straight. My build list kept growing and growing for things i could do with this. LOL:roflsquared:

I think the filter is pretty accessable from the front side , I just lay down a rag break the filters tq with my hand ( I have LARGE hands ) then I slip a 1qt container up under the filter that covers about 75% of the filter and reach in with a thumb & pointing finger to spin it about 1/2 way down to let it drain , spin it the rest the way off and let it drop into the container with the already drained oil ...I've never spilled a drop after 5 or 6 changes ...hope this helps !

Use some rhino ramps, I never had anything but a good time changing my oil. A bad day changing your oil is better then a good day at work. While you are down there, spray some yummy smelling fluid film.

I enjoy doing most any kind of maintenance of my vehicles. Doing an oil change is nice and cathartic, BUT Mopar sure made it a PITA, not to mention a mess, on the 1500 Rams on model years 2015 and newer with the hemi. The hydraulic power steering unit makes it virtually impossible to get any kind of container under the filter to try and catch most of the oil. Tried the "filter glove" sold by Geno's (didn't fit, no room), and and a few improvised approaches like wrapping the steering unit with tin foil, or using a gallon zip lock bag, but still a mess was hard to avoid.
Finally just installed a remote oil filter. Fabricated a bracket that wraps around the frame, rubber cushioned as it clamps around it, and positions the remote filter mount perfectly without having to drill holes in the frame. Remote came with adaptors that can use either the M22x1.5, so stock filters can be used, and the 3/4 - 16 so larger capacity filters can be used.
Now changing oil on the Ram is a snap.
