So I have read through alot of this thread and I am convinced to try redline 5w-30. My question though is, which RP filter to use? I have read so many numbers that its kind of a blur. I am looking for the larger style (mo-899 is the mopar filter I have been using) RP filter part number.

So what is the RP filter number that cross references the mo-899 filter?

For what its worth, I bought my truck (2014) with 15,000 miles on it. I am at 37,000 right now and have done three oil changes, all using the mo-899 filter. The first change I ran Royal Purple 5w-20, and the last two I have ran Amsoil XL 5w-20. All three at about a 6000 mile OCI. No idea what was ran in truck before I bought it but as of yet, I have only had a tick on cold statups, for maybe a second or two. No other noises to speak of.

Still looking to switch to redline for obvious preventative reasons.

The small (stock size for EPS equipped Hemi trucks) is 10-48

The larger (pre EPS Hemi truck size) is 20-820

Thats what I thought, I just wanted it comfirmed. I do have the EPS but still have been running the larger style with no issues.

Same here...had to do a little creative finagling to get it in and out, but it does fit.

I went back to the stock size filter, though, in case my dealer decides to be a stickler for "incorrect filter size".

Thanks Syn for opening the Can.

Look back at what Sean did with ecodiesel 8 speed. Went to a lower oci and valvoline max atf which clearly isn't zf fluid. didnt he also use amsoil which I also believe not zf compatible?

Yes Burla: Sean was not impressed with the Blue Label Amsoil ATF.
He showed and found a lot of metal shavings or fine metal at the bottom of the pan while using the Amsoil.
Me and my mind still think the transmission was not through breaking in and those were just a lot of the initial break in where metals.
I could be very much wrong though.
I thought there was another video of him doing a service on the eight speed after the switch to the Valvoline Maxlife ATF and there was very little shavings at the bottom of the pan or on the magnets.

Then I’m not exactly for sure at what point or how many miles had on the eight speed but he switched to Valvoline Maxlife ATF. Which he ran in the ZF eight speed transmission for over 200,000 miles and had nothing but praise for this ATF. He also used this same ATF in the BW 44-44 transfer case that is supposedly only supposed to be run on a special fluid. Which he proved was total hogwash due to he praised the ATF for having smoothed up the operation of the transfer case itself.
Over 200,000 miles with non-specs fluid and zero issues.

find your filter function right corner.

10-48 is the small one

20-820 is the large one

You can buy a case, the filter never degrades with sitting.

However you shouldn't listen to me because I am biased, lol. This what Amazon said to me, yeah I say RP makes the worst oil out there and the best filters and somehow I am biased, lol. They took my detailed review of RP down, however the good news they left me calling RP oil bad oil up that I know of, lol. Wow why would sellers use Amazon instead of ebay, I have no idea. When I was selling it was ebay all the way. Ebay makes it so easy to sell stuff, probably why prices are cheaper there like 80% of the time.

Amazon dont like Burla-

Your previous review of this product did not comply with our Customer Reviews Guidelines. Amazon does not permit reviews from customers whose relationship to the product or seller may be perceived as biased.

So I bought a case of RP filters and they took down my review, lol. You know the bad part, I get accused of something but I get no paycheck from RP. Someone let RP know they owe me a check.

Just finished up a simple micro service with my new 68RFE, with not yet 3K miles on her.
She has 3 good decent towing adventures on her now: towing the 11Klb bumper pull enclosed trailer. (Right @ 1842 miles worth).

With this small electric pump I was able to suck out 4qts of the FF ATF through the dipstick. I did drive her for a few min to get the ATF up to 100°F , which would make pumping the fluid a little easier for the little pump.

The FF ATF was still ruby red & looked very clean.
I then refilled with 4qts Schaeffers All-Trans ATF.
I know this only replenished 1/4 of the FF ATF. (Maybe a bit more)

But I have intentions of doing this one more time before winter, and then every 6months. Until I can afford one of those expensive aluminum finned transmission pans with the drain plug, which will make the service much faster and easier. As well as draining out possibly a couple more qts every time.

Just slowly replacing the FF fluid with a way more robust ATF gives me a little satisfaction that I am doing a decent service for my new transmission.
Steve my service manager texted me back and said the spin on filter and pan filter that is in the transmission does not really have to be changed until the 45 to 50K mile mark. At this point fresh fluid is more important.

Most owners probably wouldn’t even bother doing this. For a fact I know most probably wouldn’t.
I’m not by no means your normal owner.
I know this transmission is the weakest link in this whole system and it’s probably going to get my most attention along with the rearend.

Nice pump, I have a brake bleeder, I am hoping if the fluid is warm enough I can siphon pan dry before dropping pan.

I think that is why atf's are so thin, there is a lot less demanded of them as well. I guess you can do a uoa to see if there are issues.

5-transmission-uoa-amsoil-universal-atf-wearmetals.jpg
I did a UOA on my FF in my xsmn , all was good , I've had 2 ea pan drains of REDLINE C + and I'm about to do my 3rd and final one this weekend , maybe I'll do a UOA on it now with mostly C+ being in there ...

I highly recommend sucking it out prior to dropping the pan for a filter change , makes it much cleaner !

Have two of those pump set ups for different siphoning. it sure makes things easier and neater.

So far the little fella has performed flawlessly with the 68RFE & Power Steering reservoir.

When the time comes: I will use it to suck out all the brake fluid within the brake fluid reservoir as well.

Reviews were not very good on this little pump but for only $22 I figured I would take a chance I think the secret is just don’t let it run for more than 10/15 minutes at a time don’t let it overheat.

It will be really kewl to actually To get & install a deep aluminum pan with a drain plug on the transmission, service will be a little bit easier & virtually mess free.

Just a note: Sonnax wants ATF fluid above 140°F as quick as possible but with a slow steady pace/climb to that temp. The company prefers normal operating range between 160-195°F.
Jesse stated they did prefer synthetic ATF.

CA is gonna burn to the ground, no need for earthquakes or wars or any of that. The commies wont thin the herd, so these fires start and they can't put them out. Who knew that logging is actually a good thing if you leave the young growth? The wind becomes fire, these fires are not just country fires, they are like burning cities, anything within 4 miles from the country.

I would run d6 in the 8 speed.

And unfortunately, to many other States and the "cool to be socialist' crowd want to copy the insanity. New fire last night shut down I-5 from Shasta to Oregon. Tripled in size over night. This morning Cal-Fire tells the State budget committee that they have spent over $400 M this year on fires and they only have $11M left and they will run out $. And PGE went to Sacramento requesting a rate hike to offset the fire cost. CA now becoming concerned about the number of "tax paying" people who are leaving. 11,826 in the first 6 months. Planning a road trip to Idaho. (just as soon as the new 2018 2500 gets here)

What's the weather like in Idaho? I can't remember anyone ever claiming to be from Idaho.
